Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-18-07  Mendrys: Amazing how a queen sac for 2 minor pieces can keep going for another 20 moves. Interestingly, crafty seems to think black has a slight advantage after the sac that slips away and then black gives up the farm with 31...Re4 after wich he gets thouroughly throttled.
Aug-18-07  laskereshevsky: I dont know what the experienced GM DeFirmian thought and feeled in the minutes before mad his sac, but i hope to dont look to much self-confident, if i say that maybe we tryed a similar feeling.....

i say this cause about 12 years ago in a minor tournament 1600-1699 ELO (national) points... in a game, around the last 4-5 quickplayed moves before the first time-controll (1h x 20 moves), me and my opponent, started a combination full of attacks and counter-attacks (saying the thrue, its better to say "wrongs and counter-wrongs"...)

cause i moved the Blacks pieces the last slip was mine, and when the gun's smoke moved from the board, my opponent, with his 21th move, made a, so-look at the moment, decisive blow threathening the gaine of ♗♗♘ in change of ♖♙, this thanks an intermediate attack to my ♕, wich one gave him 1 or 2 decisive tempi.....

after same minutes thoughting if was better to resigned immediatly or later, i tryed to catch-up myself...

watching the position with "different eyes", i saw an impreviste ♕sac, wich lead to a loose by my side of ♕♗♘♙♙, in change of ♖♗♘♘♙. in other words ♕ and ♙ for ♖♘, in adiction my 2♖ were very active, and i had the only free pawn on the board, cause his pawns structure was th weakest by a double doubled pawns....

IMHO, the chances were at least even...much more for me then the "normal" struggle's follow....

the difficultest point was to find the guts to sac the Q...remember i spended ab. 10/12 minutes for (try) to calculate variants, and 7/8 minutes only for "force" myself to gave my Q!!!...

in the meanwhile my opponent was snooping around the tournament-room with a very quite expression on the face...evidently was only waitng for a sudden set-up....

CONTINUE........

Aug-18-07  laskereshevsky: ............

my move was like a wipe-shoot in the room, as time goes, more and more players and visitors surrounded our table...its amazing how much a Qsac touch the chess-appasionates immagination...even my opponent was touched...before astonished, after same minutes of thought a little smile was on his face, evidently he was happy at the idea to catch my Q....by my side in the beginning i was nervous for my choice, but as the games gone, move after move, my position (and my moral) resulted better and better, the other's smile disappeared, his face lokked more and more dark nervous and embarassated.. after 25/30 moves he resigned...

the crowd was around me...
i holded a lots of hand (!)....

a FM (the strongest player in that little town) said something like:.."the only time i saw something like this played by a 1600 player was a lot ago....by a teen-ager wich one now is an IM....congratulations..."

.....was an incredible experience!!!

from that day in the chess-club i was watched with others eyes....and all this started from a blunder....:)
