Jul-22-04  Whitehat1963: Clever finish in the opening of the day. Puzzle?

  Gypsy: This, of course, should be a Keres' win, not Bogoljubov's.
Jul-22-04  Calli: This game is not from the Salzburg 1942 or 1943 tournaments. Anybody have information?

  Benzol: <Calli> The game is from the Salzburg Tournament but Keres' opponent was Klaus Junge. It was played in the 2nd round on the 10th of June 1942.

  Gypsy: Good work <Benzol>!
Jul-23-04  Calli: <Benzol> Excellent! I only looked at my Bogo file and didn't see it at all. Very nice that someone on Chessgames always has the documentation and is willing to research an error. Thanks.
Dec-22-09  lost in space: White was not able to get anything out of the opening. The game was over a long period of time slightly better for Black;

But after move 30. the advantage of Black should have been disappearing: 31. Re3 Ba8 32. exf6 Rxf6 33. Ne5 c4 and the game is nearly even; maybe a small edge remaining for Black due to his queen side pawn majority.

White moves 31. Nd6? and 32. Rxc5?? are losing quickly

Sep-13-20  Octavia: They played the same opening again & had a draw in München a few months later
Apr-09-21  tympsa: Junge was in trouble after 30...b5 Knight has only two moves and both are bad . Counterpunch 31.Re3 would be about equal game .

32 Rxc5 was rookie blunder, to forget that your king is in back rank mate situation and only only things protecting him are two rooks on 1st rank protecting each other

Apr-09-21  tympsa: I tried to play after 31. Re3 black against Stockfish rated 2500 and it was really draw . I wouldn believe that I could draw with 2500 engine from equal mittelspiel position without any kibitzing, but bishop is so much better in endgame on both wings than knight, really surprising ... Junge could have drawn this if he found 31. Re3

  Gypsy: <31.Nd6?> This loses a pawn but not necessarily the game

Black has an extra pawn but White piece play is good; he should be able to hold.

You're right, and also if Black goes after the queenside pawns with brute force, seems like White has more than enough counterplay:

32. Rc3 R8xd6 33. Rxf3 Rd2 34. Rc3 Rxb2 35. Rxc5 Rb3 36. a4 b4 <37. Rd1>
