Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-11-04  InspiredByMorphy: A very unique game by Adams. He doesen't castle, runs his king around, and advances the kingside pawns just out of the opening. Bravo Adams!
Mar-11-04  Kenkaku: <InspiredByMorphy> Actually those are all pretty common themes in the French. Castling is often not advisible, and since the queenside opened up he moved his king for defensive purposes (having already committed with f4, developing for 0-0 would not be a great idea).
Mar-11-04  InspiredByMorphy: <Kenkaku> <having already commited with f4, O-O would not be a great idea.> Adams could have played 7.Ngf3 with safety. 7.Ngf3 cxd 8.cxd Qb6 9.Nb3 and white has nothing to worry about (especially after Bd3 and O-O). White has more active pieces with an open position, and a rook on the f-file, while black has a knight on d7 (with no useful square to go to) obstructing the queen bishop. In the game not castling because the queenside has opened up, only makes sense if your talking about queenside castling.
Mar-11-04  Kenkaku: <InspiredByMorphy> Look up this line in the Opening Explorer. It is not all that rare. 7. Ndf3 is played in nearly all examples, while 7. Ngf3 is almost never played (the winning percentages for black are large after this move). 10. Kf2 is also completely standard. The line you give may be fine (three draws have been played in it in this database), but it is apparently not best according to standard theory.
Mar-12-04  InspiredByMorphy: <Kenkaku> Thank you for the information.
Nov-17-17  schnarre: ...Thanks all for the information.
