Apr-15-05  chess man: Talk about being trapped!
May-14-08  sfairat: why in the world would black play 9...Kxd6 instead of 9...cxd6 I don't think you have to be Alekhine to beat this Rozanov gentleman.
Jan-07-20  sea7kenp: Looks like Mate in One to me!
Jan-07-20  sea7kenp: Okay, after posting that, I see that Black can play 22 ... Qf4+, and then 23 ... Qxf5, giving up the Queen. Resignation still appropriate.

FSR: Black was an earlier adopter of the English Defense. It usually features an early ...e6, which certainly would have been preferable to what happened to Black in the game. For another misadventure with ...b6 and ...f5, see Denker's first brilliancy, the glorious Denker vs H Feit, 1929.

kingscrusher: 5.d5 is a curious inaccuracy

It allowed 5...e6 when black is fine:

Maybe it was generally thought to be risky to give up a bishop for a knight. Alekhine himself needed a bit more encouragement it seems.
