Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-01-08  outsider: tarrasch badly retarded the development of his pieces and got cruelly punished
May-23-09  Abracadabra888: Agree with 'outsider' here. Blacks white sq. Bishop was hampered by this opening yet again.
Jun-02-09  WhiteRook48: bishop spent most of its life on e8 and d7
Jun-18-20  Ulhumbrus: If the pawn sacrifice 14 0-0 is sound one alternative to 14...Nxc4 is 14...b6 preparing to get the queen's bishop out by 15...Bb7
Jul-23-25  HealTheWorld: I think the problems here happened after the doctor's 17th move. When the Dane moved his knight to Queen Knight 5 (!), he was distracting the doctor into taking his knight, while uncovering a long-range attack on the Black Queen. And the doctor took the bait and got the seemingly free knight, costing him his queen. Most lesser mortals like us would have resigned at this point. But the doctor surprisingly and very miraculously held out for - get this right - another 27 (!!) more moves before throwing in the towel on the 44th move. His bishop and rook now have no moves, and his only pawn capture will not change the situation.

Call it hubris, but I don't consider myself a lesser mortal than one who overlooks that his queen is hanging.

To be fair to the doctor, I'm not sure that moving his queen at move 17 and allowing the fork 18. N-B7 (Nc7...) would be better for Black than giving up his Q for R+N.

Jul-24-25  HealTheWorld: @FM_David_H._Levin Yes, that is true too. So the problem is likely further back.

I'm guessing after 15 R-QB1, the doctor's reply with 15...P-Q4? seems a bit passive. If I had the Black pieces in such a situation, I'd have likely done 15...NxQNP, because it buys Black time to sort his position out with a rook move next.
