Bogoljubov vs O Sarapu, 1949

Dec-19-13  WoodPushkin: Wow. I haven't studied Bogoljubov games for sum years now but his positional acumen is stunning! Great endgame.

I've gone through it a couple times now and Selezniev was plain 'ole outplayed in the endgame.

He was doing fine but then came move 49...Nc2+?! weakening Blacks position by taking the knight a little off his lines. On b4 the N hits the a6 pawn but with N on d4 no piece need babysit the the a-file foot soldier.

Now why he gave away the h7 pawn on move 52...Nf5?? is really beyond comprehension. Simply playing 52...h6 and the game should be drawable.

Both of these guys were making computer (anachronistic?) moves throughout the game staying w/n a half point of each other and zowie Black what,? gets a stern look from sum communist thug saying, 'Efim is hero of hour. You lose now!'

You gotta wonder. I gno, I gno but human error is not so intriguing as geopolitics.

JAH Love.
