Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-04-18  Retireborn: Pettersson's page mentions his performance in this tournament, where he "ended last, with 15 losses, a draw vs David Przepiorka and a win vs Julius Perlis."

And yet the awful truth is he should have lost this game too.

He could have bailed out to a drawn endgame with 43.bxa7 Rxa7 44.Kd3 Rxa5 45.Rb6+ and the black c-pawn will soon fall.

43.b7 is a suicidal attempt to win. But with victory in his grasp, Perlis fails to play 46...Rd8 which wins by cutting off the white king eg 47.Rc8 c1Q+ 48.Rxc1 Kxc1. Instead he hurries to queen his pawn, and subsequently the white king reaches c7 and Black falls an agonizing tempo short in the pawn race. Sad!
