Mar-25-20  wordfunph: 1-0 in 48 moves
Mar-26-20  morfishine: Caruana could use a nice win, but that'll be hard since LaGrave is coming off a strong win over Nepo. This one looks like a draw

MissScarlett: I predict a draw on time.
Mar-26-20  Inocencio: Its now or never. Faby must assert now his strength against MVL before its too late. If D4, MVL will play Gruenfeld. If E4, MVL will play Najdorf.
Mar-26-20  wordfunph: inocencio, right.

the word is "assert".

Mar-26-20  jith1207: So, what are we here for? ;-)

MissScarlett: Not for the first time, Franco-Italian war suspended.
Mar-26-20  edbermac: Looks like we’ll be waiting a loooooong time for Fab’s opening move.
Mar-26-20  Brenin: Candidates suspended.
Mar-26-20  Bobby Spassky: Today, the government of the Russian Federation announced that starting March 27, 2020, Russia interrupts air traffic with other countries without indicating any time frames.

FIDE can not continue the tournament without guarantees for the players' and officials' safe and timely return home. In this situation and on the basis of clause 1.5. Rules of Candidates Tournament, the FIDE President decided to stop the tournament. It will be continued later, with the exact dates to be announced as soon, as the global situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic will allow.

As it was stipulated by the special rules agreed with the players before the start of the event, the results of the 7 rounds played remain valid, and the tournament will be resumed in the same composition starting with the games of the 8th round. FIDE is grateful to the players, officials, volunteers and the entire team of organizers, including the Chess Federation of Russia and the main partner of the tournament - SIMA-Land.

Sincerely,
Arkady Dvorkovich,
FIDE President

Mar-26-20  Bobby Spassky: I guess Putin's employee of the month, Trump, got a bad performance review.
Mar-26-20  Octavia: I wonder how everyone is getting home
Mar-26-20  jith1207: Twitter handles said everyone including players, journalists and other staff from abroad are returning at the earliest.

That's going to be busy few hours where so many people try to get out of there, if they can't stay for as long as the interruption is going to be.

Good luck to all.

Mar-26-20  ZonszeinP: I wish Vachier-Lagrave could become the champion's challenger

I just wanted to say that

And to wish

All the best to everybody

Mar-26-20  Kurakotsaba: 🖐✋🤚👐🛑🚨🛑🚨
Jan-19-21  Messiah: The live broadcast is stalling for months now. Terrible!
Apr-18-21  Damenlaeuferbauer: This will be the most important game of the 8th round tomorrow. If Fabio wins, it may be his 1st step winning the Candidates the 2nd time. If MVL wins, it will be a huge leap winning this tournament, and if they draw, it may be a little step for MVL to secure 1st place.
Apr-18-21  belgradegambit: To me White has a slight advantage in this position.
Apr-18-21  cro777: After a more than one year break the Candidates finally resume.

The game of the day one (Round 8). 'There are multiple ways to approach this game strategically: both players would benefit greatly from a win but it’s not so clear either player is fully incentivized to take too much risk given how costly a loss would be.' (Chess by the Numbers)

In the last two games they played over-the-board with a standard time control the battle was in the Sicilian Najdorf.

Are we going to see another Najdorf?

Yup.

Apr-19-21  rcs784: FWIW, tablebase says 45...Kf7 draws and everything else loses.
Apr-19-21  Atking: Yes Fortress is possible if N goes to g7 and K waits on g6, yes R is stronger than N but here f6 firmly stops white g pawn and N near his K R can't be a decisive factor.

Your humble poster did--one time only, as a 1600 player!

0ZeR0: My initial impression of this game watching live was that Caruana pretty much played a perfect game. Despite this the ending was indeed drawn but MVL went wrong trying for a specific setup. This might end up being the most important game for the standings when all is said and done.
