Dec-28-21		ajk68: I went with Qxf6. In some ways it is more satisfying to gobble all of black's pieces as he helplessly tries to avoid mate.

Kxf6 34 R1e6+ Kf7 35 Bxh7 (threatening mate by Bg8 or Bg6) Nc2+ 36 Bxc2 Be4 37 Bxe4 Qxa2+ 38 Kxa2 Re7 39 R8xe7+ Kf8 (or Kg8) 40 R8e7+ Kf7 41 Bg6 mate. White can sadistically enjoy Black throwing one piece after another into the hopeless defence until there are none left. Personally, I'd rather get it over quickly with 33 Rf8+.

Dec-28-21		scormus: Since the game was blitz, it's not surprising that W chose the straightforward route. But 33 Qxf6+ caught my eye as being (to me anyway) a more satisfying way to win. Especially if you wanted to make B suffer.

Dec-28-21		AlicesKnight: Saw the gameline quickly, with mate on e8 or h8 to follow. 32. ... g5 opens the way but even after 32. ... Qg5 Black still looks in trouble after Qxf3 (though not 33.Qxg5? Bxd4) and white can extract his K from danger.

Dec-28-21		agb2002: White has a rook and a pawn for a bishop and a knight. Black threatens gxf4 and Bxg2. The black king protects the bishop on f6. Hence, 33.Rf8+ Kxf8 34.Qxf6+ Rf7 (34... Kg8 35.Re1#) 35.Qh8#.

Dec-28-21		Cheapo by the Dozen: I solved this pretty much as intended, for a fun Tuesday puzzle. 1. Note that Rf8+ and Qxf6+ in some order are pretty close to being mate ... 2. ... with the catch being the Rf7 interposition in either case. 3. Find the version that actually delivers a quick mate.

After <33.Qxf6+ Kxf6 34.R1e6+ Kf7 35.Bxh7!> Black is dealing with two mate threats by the bishop: click for larger view The only thing Black can do is forcing the bishop to retreat and then block access to g6: <35....Nc2+ 36.Bxc2> bishop retreats. <36....Be4> piece one <37.Bxe4 Qf5> piece two <38.Bxf5 Re7> else Bg6#, and now it's forced <39.R8xe7+ Kf8 40.Re8+ Kf7> and finally, <41.Bg6#>. About time :>

Dec-28-21		johnnydeep: After taking far too long to see anything great, I picked 33.Qd6, which seemed promising, and which the ENGINE says is mate in 6. So, I missed the better game move. And to be honest, I didn't really see the mate in 6 either :-)
