52...?

Jul-11-18  thegoodanarchist: Looks to my as if So took the wrong approach. He tried to blow his opponent off the board with a violent tactical assault.

He should have tried to outmaneuver his opponent positionally.

Jul-11-18  thegoodanarchist: GOTD Pun Suggestion:

"Haa Haa!"

Jul-11-18  thegoodanarchist: "Praggnan Pause"

"Sweet Babu"

"So Sorry"

Jul-12-18  Jamboree: So had an automatic easy draw up to move 62. The game-losing blunder was 62. Kc6???, allowing black to queen the pawn.

Instead, simply 62. RxP leads to a quick draw after 62. ... KxR and now black can't coordinate his pieces quickly enough to stop both pawns, and must sac a piece, leading to a "no mating material" situation:

62. RxP KxR
63. e6 Kf3
64. e7 Nc7+
65. Kc6 Ne8
66. Kd7 draw

...or...
63. ... Nc7+
64. Kd6 Nxa6
65. e7 Bc5+
66. Kd7 draw

There are various other lines, but in all of them, the pieces can't stop both pawns.

Jul-12-18  ajile: Isn't this opening known as the Barry Attack? The q-Knight goes to c3 in front of the c pawn and early q-bishop to f4.

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/ch...

Similar to the Veresov Attack except in that line the q-bishop goes to g5 instead of f4.The obvious downside is that the Nc3 is blocking the White c pawn.

maxi: Go got an excellent position out of the opening and it seemed that the game was going to be a slaughter, but RP defended bravely and kept finding good moves. At the end it seems that Go was exhausted, he played so loosely.
Jul-20-18  abuzic: after 52.Rh8 black missed a winning position: 52...?
Jul-21-18  Whitemouse: Promoting h pawn to Q with Bf4-Bh6?
Jul-21-18  wordfunph: Rameshbabu "El Rapido" Praggnanandhaa, yodaman!
Mar-20-19  Ayaend: A very nice game by “la relève d’Anand” congrats both players !
Dec-26-20  BeerBrand: After 19... Bxg5 of black, there is already a winning line given by modern engines with a big plus 20.dxe5! (+3.42 ) Stockfish 12

and not the text move
20.Qh5 because of 20... e4! blocking the spanish B of white
