Aug-30-15  DUS: Congratulations with this brilliant victory!
Aug-30-15  qkxwsm: Nice endgame grind by Aronian.
Aug-30-15  SirRuthless: What a domination! A total pillaging by the great Levon against his client Hikaru! He took control of the game early and never let his grip relax before choking the life from the poor american.

Aug-30-15  Marmot PFL: Nakamura needs to prepare the openings better. It doesn't make sense to repeat a line just because Aronian lost a game with it, when he was doing very well for most of that game and has studied it since.
Aug-30-15  savagerules: Typical let down game by a player after the mega difficult tactical fireworks vs So. This happens a lot- the previous game used up a lot of energy and adrenaline and the next game was ripe for the taking.
Aug-30-15  SirRuthless: Ir he just got outplayed by a guy having a great event... That could be it... Nakamura is lucky to be on and even score right now imo. He could be -2 if his opponents weren't a little up- and down as well. Aronian on the other hand could be +4 or +5 right now with his quality.

The kingside is deserted...

Aug-31-15  Ulhumbrus: Nakamura may have hoped that after a5 either Black's a6 pawn would become a target instead of his a5 pawn or else as in the game Carlsen vs Aronian, 2013 Black's a6 pawn would become a target on the a file after White's a5 pawn fell.

It was not to be: Aronian refrained from taking the a5 pawn (and so making a target of Black's a6 pawn) and instead contented himself with tying White's rooks to the a file.

Perhaps Aronian improved on his loss against Carlsen by practising the old adage <The threat is stronger than the execution>

Aug-31-15  Marmot PFL: Congrats to GM Aronian on his victory. The Marshall Attack requires the courage of your convictions & courage to ignore machine opinions!
Aug-31-15  fisayo123: Marshall attack?

plang: 8 a4 avoids the Marshall Attack and is sometimes referred to as the Ani-Marshall
Aug-31-15  makinavaja: Yes, >Ulhumbrus, you are very right. Aronian learnt the lesson received in 2013, and played a four rooks ending very deeply: 35....fg5!!And put his king in the correct side of the board...
