 | | chancho: er Bd2 heading to c3. |
Jul-22-12 | | talisman: <chancho> good call... |
Jul-22-12 | | Ulhumbrus: Leko has a bishop and the initiative for a knight and a pawn while Kramnik has sacrificed a piece to begin a king hunt. |
Jul-22-12 | | Eyal: Not relevant anymore to the contention for first place - but Kramnik seems to be winning against Meier, keeping his score against sub-2700 players since the beginning of 2011 at a decent +12 =3. |

 | | chancho: <talisman> Not my call. The moves are coming in faster here: https://play.shredderchess.com/ |
Jul-22-12 | | haydn20: 29....Rc7 and he goes into a Q+B endgame down 2 P's. At least that would make Karjakin break a sweat. |
Jul-22-12 | | cormier: ...Bc5 |
Jul-22-12 | | Ulhumbrus: White is ready to play Bc3, attacking the g7 pawn a fourth time. Black seems unable to defend the g7 pawn a fourth time by any single move but he may be able to do it by a pair of moves eg by the manoeuvre ...Bb6-d8-f6 or by the manoeuvre ...Re8-e5-g5 |
Jul-22-12
 | | chancho: 31...Re5 stops the Bc3 idea. |
Jul-22-12 | | cormier: 32...Rg5 |
Jul-22-12 | | haydn20: <Eyal: Not relevant anymore to the contention for first place - but Kramnik seems to be winning against Meier, keeping his score against sub-2700 players since the beginning of 2011 at a decent +12 =3. > LOL at "decent"--a rare wry understatement for these pages. |
Jul-22-12 | | talisman: <chancho> :) ...thanks for the link. |
Jul-22-12 | | waustad: If Naiditsch - Leko draw, Caruana would win the tiebreaks because he has more wins than Karjakin. Naiditsch is the only leader with five blacks, which is the first tiebreak, so it he can win his game he gets the trophy. I don't know how they split up the cash. Maybe split evenly or use Hort system. |
Jul-22-12 | | talisman: ball game....thank you chessgames!...any other game? |
Jul-22-12
 | | chessgames.com: Sure we'll switch games, what looks good? |
Jul-22-12 | | Eyal: <Naiditsch is the only leader with five blacks, which is the first tiebreak, so it he can win his game he gets the trophy.> No - Pono has five blacks too, and also a bigger number of wins (in case he wins). |

Jul-22-12
 | | Open Defence: any suggestions for the next one ? |
Jul-22-12 | | PinnedPiece: That's what I call decisive.
. |
Jul-22-12 | | Eyal: Naiditsch-Leko seems the more interesting of the two remaining games, I think. |
Jul-22-12 | | goodape: https://play.shredderchess.com/ is reporting a 1/2 - 1/2 on this game ??? |
Jul-22-12 | | Ulhumbrus: On 35...Rxg7 36 Rd8+ Qg8 37 Rxg8+ Kxg8 38 Qd8+ forks the black king and the rook on a5 |
Jul-22-12 | | Eyal: 33.Qd4! nicely takes advantage of the black bishop abandoning the a7-g1 diagonal, showing that the black pieces are misplaced (not that by move 32 Black could save himself with any other move than Ba5). After 35.Rgxg7! Black resigned since 35...Rxg7 loses to 36.Rd8+ Qg8 37.Rxg8+ Kxg8 38.Qd8+ picking up the rook on a5. Overall a very smooth and efficient game by Karjakin, though truth to say Gustafsson didn't put up very tough resistance. |

Jul-22-12 | | bubuli55: <Overall a very smooth and efficient game by Karjakin, though truth to say Gustafsson didn't put up very tough resistance. > I agree 100%. Kramnik played true to his rating. Can't say that to Gustafsson tho. Oh well. We all have those days :) I'm sure Gustafsson enjoyed playing those 2700's |
Jul-26-12 | | Ulhumbrus: This game suggests the following question: After 6...h6 under which circumstances does the pawn attack g2-g4 and g4-g5 become a threat? |
Dec-05-17 | | bunbun: This game is referenced in Banter Blitz 19 with Jan Gustafsson around 1:07:40 |
