Nov-03-11 | | cunctatorg: Black's KP is always at Black's KP3; how is this opening (a genuine Nimzowitsch Defense) some kind of Ruy Lopez - C80? |

Nov-07-11 | | Nightsurfer: Today is the 125th birthday of the Great Aron Nimzowitsch who has been born on November 7th, 1886 in Riga. So it is a nice way to commemorate that jubilee by nominating that amazing game <A Brinckmann vs A Nimzowitsch, Berlin 1927> to be GAME OF THE DAY November 7th, 2011! That (casual) game is ample proof for the surprising fact that Aron Nimzowitsch was a comedian in disguise: Master Nimzowitsch simply snatches away a Pawn without taking care of his development (5. ... Qxg2!?!) - as if he was a naive novice - , the Queen even returns to her starting-out position (10. ... Qd8!!) ... but Aron Nimzowitsch wins anyway. The commentary of Master Nimzowitsch with regard to 10. ... Qd8!!: He trusts in the potential of the starting-out position (!!!) to survive any attack (!!!!) ... as the German author Martin Beheim-Schwarzbach has underlined in the collection of famous games "Schachbuch" (Munich 1972) that Beheim-Schwarzbuch has edited. That very game <A Brinckmann vs A Nimzowitsch, Berlin 1927> has been published on the pages 155 and 156. |

Nov-07-11 | | knighterrant999: The hypermodern Master gave his opponent hypertension here. |
|
Nov-07-11 | | sfm: Fine pun. Exactly what it was. |
|
Nov-07-11 | | sfm: Beginners, do not look at this game.
Instead repeat after me:
- Do not bring the queen too early into the game
- Do not move the same piece several times
- Do not grab pawns if the opponents gains time to develop his pieces ;-) |

Nov-07-11 | | knighterrant999: How come when I play moves like Kf8 I get mated? :O |

Nov-07-11 | | goodevans: <Nightsurfer: Today is the 125th birthday of the Great Aron Nimzowitsch> They could have chosen a better game with which to celebrate. This was definitely not one of his finest and he only prevailed because his opponent failed to capitalise on the opportunity he was presented with. It was Nimzowitsch who was playing brinkmanship, with Brinckmann just one move short of being able to launch a powerful attack. |

Nov-07-11 | | sfm: <goodevans: They could have chosen a better game with which to celebrate.> OK, but many people, like myself, know already a number of Nimzowitsch's greater games. This one was new to me, and I like it because it is so unusual. <This was definitely not one of his finest and he only prevailed because his opponent failed to capitalise on the opportunity he was presented with.> Interesting statement, and I'd like to believe that as well. However, I don't see any refutations in the comments below?! If you have something, please post. |
