  Open Defence: thanks <chessgames.com>

the idea with 42...Bc7 makes me very proud

Sep-12-09  returnoftheking: explain this idea ! (svp)
Sep-13-09  sneaky pete: After 42... Bc7 white must lose his last hope pawn d7.

Open Defence: yes, and after the Knight captures on h4 it takes a few moves to get back in it... while the Rooks are now not tied to nursing d7 and can combine with the DSB, also Black retains the dangerous DSB which is mainly the reason for the presure on the White King

jessicafischerqueen: 42...Bc7 is indeed very sweet-

covers the Queening square and indeed White's Knight is out of play for some time whether he takes <Nxh4> immediately or after a few moves as in the sample line you posted-

In some variations I was just looking at, you can actually start using both of your Rooks to invade White's position after you post your DSB there on <c7>- very nice post- he can deliver checks from there as well if need be.

This game is really high quality <Deffi>- I was just replaying it with <Shredder> on 12-ply and there are long, long stretches of play from the middle game to the FEN position where every single move played in the game by both people is <Shredder's> first or second choice.

Usually the first.

This opponent was no slouch that's for sure.

Are we allowed to know his secret identity?

<Deffi> this game is very very complicated and would bear much analysis, which I hope it gets here on the game page.

It's absolutely not the kind of game you can just rush through with your engine and note a "few points" where someone went wrong, or played a good idea.

It would take hours and hours to make sense of this game.

I have great admiration for you "ace correspondence" masters- for your ability to find very subtle ideas, and to play essentially "error free" chess.

High, high level stuff.

Open Defence: White is <Keypusher> ... I feel I misplayed the opening a bit though

  jessicafischerqueen: Oh! <keypusher>!!

Nice one <Deffi>- and fine play by <keypusher> as well.

I would have guessed he'd be a strong player by the posts he makes at the website.

You know, the kind that actually make sense.

Open Defence: yup.. I imagine he fancied his chances with the d pawn...

  jessicafischerqueen: JINX!!!

heh I just figured it out from reading the kibbutzing and here you are.

I haven't subjected the opening to the "OE" yet-

This moment I'm looking at how <keypusher> might have avoided having to give up the exchange to your vicious bishop pair there---

Open Defence: I could have won the exchange earlier than I did.. but I thought my bishops were better than the rook... but then White played a move that "forced" me to win the exchange...

Open Defence: this one of course can go into the <FAWN PAWN> S Hosea vs S Thomson, 2009 do the engines find 12.d6 ? :)

jessicafischerqueen: Well the thing about isolated deep passers is that unless the "iso pawn owner" can gain control of the Queening square, the pawn might as well be right off the board-

Or, if the "iso owner" can tie down enough defence resources, he might gain counterplay on another part of the board.

Both tasks proved difficult against your Rook pair I think. And yes your DSB was indeed "key" here in its ability to both defend and offer threats at the same time.

You have to love that about Bishops I think.

jessicafischerqueen: Heh- I just added it.

<Eyal> made me take out the other games where the "FAWN PAWN" was defeated, but I'm keeping this one.

jessicafischerqueen: I added this one here as well since "technically" the <d-passer> is a FAWN PAWN.

Open Defence: yup.. if White had his DSB or I did not have a DSB this game would be very different...

There now you are in there with the FAWN PAWN "coming and going"

heh

jessicafischerqueen: <Deffi> In your other game with <keypusher>:

SHREDDER prefers <12.h4???~!!~!??> at 12-ply-

But I like your <12.d6!???!!!!?> because isn't Black just going to play <12...d6> if you don't? And consolidate?

Gotta love the Fawn Pawn.

Sep-13-09  returnoftheking: Thanks pete, nice move indeed.

keypusher: <jessicafischerqueen: I added this one here as well since "technically" the <d-passer> is a FAWN PAWN.>

Recently I learned what a <fawn pawn> was, coincidentally just after winning a casual game against one. Now I've had the pleasure of learning I'm featured in a fawn pawn collection <twice> as the loser. :-) But White's d-pawn here isn't really a fawn pawn, right? Because it's passed? <Open Defence>'s d-pawn in our other game, however, definitely qualifies....
