Playing through it slow I didn't realize that white had black in a difficult situation. I was thinking black had a crushing superiority on the queenside with his two extra passed pawns, though I knew white had kingside threats - but then after hearing the remarks, Particularly Naka thinking he could have maintained a winning position if he didn't play 34. Bxh6, I realized how much I missed. In addition, Magnus said there was a draw by repetition offer, which I completely missed. I like how Magnus avoided the schoolyard tactic after 44.Kh1 of 44...Rxg2 45.h7 and white wins the rook. Playing through a rapid game and then seeing it live is educational and fun at the same time. Someone said that these fast games are worse than useless but I disagree: not only do I get an insight into GM thinking that gets to deep for me in classically timed games, but the shortness of the live play keeps me focused. If I could play chess in classical time as well as these guys in speed chess I'd be in heaven! :) |
