ketchuplover: The streak is over. How many games was it? Well done herr Jakovenko :)
Dec-14-08  Eyal: Jakovenko the Berlin-slayer:

D Jakovenko vs Stefansson, 2006
D Jakovenko vs Z Almasi, 2007
D Jakovenko vs I Cheparinov, 2008
D Jakovenko vs E Alekseev, 2008 (with significant similarities to the present game)

Dec-14-08  Bobsterman3000: Is this Wang Yue's 1st classical loss of the year?

Dec-14-08  Eyal: Wang Yue's previous loss in a classical game happened in March, in the Reykjavik Open: B Thorfinnsson vs Wang Yue, 2008.
Dec-14-08  Bumcrot: It is amazing to compare this game to Adams-Yue, which ended in a draw earlier this year and follows this game very closely, and realize how decisive a single tempo gained in the middle game can be.
Dec-14-08  cuendillar: It is also Wang Yue's first loss ever vs a 2700+ opponent. Considering the amount of Super-tournaments he played this year, that is a very impressive streak ended by Jakovenko.
Dec-14-08  Eyal: <Bumcrot: It is amazing to compare this game to Adams-Yue, which ended in a draw earlier this year and follows this game very closely>

They've actually played two Berlin games this year, in the Euro Club Cup and the Olympiad; I suppose you mean the former - Adams vs Wang Yue, 2008

Dec-14-08  Bumcrot: Yes, Eyal, that's the one. I guess I had better learn how to embed a hotlink to a game in a kibitz.
Dec-14-08  JuliusCaesar: That was an impressively smooth performance by Jakovenko. He made breaching the Berlin look ridiculously easy. The recipe: exchange everything except the dark-squared bishop, mobilise the k-side pawn majority, march king up the board... and win.
Dec-14-08  dabearsrock1010: dont go to an endgame against jakovenko

tamar: Nice moonwalk Ke6-d6-c6 by Jacko.
Dec-14-08  arkansaw: it was indeed close, looks like Jakovenko may have to thank Adams for the inspiration
Dec-15-08  Eyal: <it was indeed close, looks like Jakovenko may have to thank Adams for the inspiration>

And Almasi: Z Almasi vs Wang Yue, 2008

Dec-15-08  beenthere240: This looks like a textbook example of how the exchange variation of the RL is supposed to win for black with the king side majority. The switch at the end to eat up the queen pawns was nice. It's a game where white can hardly lose and has nice chances to win.

Dec-18-08  OneArmedScissor: Jakovenko has amazing end game skills.

Apr-19-09  Whitehat1963: Another excellent display of his endgame skill.
Aug-11-09  nd792001: Imagine my surprise to follow OneArmedScissor's link expecting to see Jakovenko's amazing end game skills and instead I find: "My Chevy Caprice on 24s and I, Ballin at MCDONALDS!!" which is like Jakovenko's amazing endgame skills, with the exception that instead of a chessboard there's a Chevy Caprice, and instead of an endgame, there's McDonalds.
Aug-20-09  arsen387: Berlin defense got to be a bad choice against Jako
Jun-06-18  Toribio3: This is a very instructive end game. It requires a lot of imagination. Perseverance is one of the virtue of Jakovenko.
