Apr-03-06 | | Zplane: Whites mistake may have been made as early as move 16. Should have pushed the pawn to a4. |
Apr-03-06 | | patzer2: With slim prospects for an advantage in this line, two possible improvements for White to simplify and go for the draw are 14. Qd4= and 22. Qa4=. |
Apr-03-06 | | patzer2: <Zplane> After 16. a4? bxa4 17. Nxa4 Qxb4 , Black has won a pawn with a clear advantage. |
Apr-03-06 | | jamesmaskell: Of course the instinctive reaction would be to exchange queens but that doesnt work as the ultimate aim is to promote the pawn. Got it in about 10 seconds, which isnt too bad. |
Apr-03-06 | | Zplane: <patzer2> After 16. a4? bxa4 17. Rxa4
18.Nd4? |
Apr-03-06 | | schnarre: A pretty basic finish, but nice anyway! |
Apr-03-06 | | Castle In The Sky: I usually say TGIM, but I'm not sure if this one even qualifies as a "puzzle." The answer logically flows from the position. Puzzles, even easy ones, have some degree of subtlety. |
Apr-03-06 | | charms: seen in a glimpse. People who read to many fairy tales in their youth always tend to seek for a possibility to promote pawns. |
Apr-03-06 | | kevin86: This puzzle was REALLY easy-even for a Monday.
I wouldn't call it a queen sacrifice, but a loan of a queen for two moves at a rook's interest. Even a banker (or loan shark) would blanche at those rates! lol |
Apr-03-06 | | YouRang: Yeah, very easy. Really more of a "warm up for Monday" puzzle. You really have to have your "never sac a queen" blinders on to miss this one. But I like it. :-) |
Apr-03-06 | | iamverywellatchess: I am still waiting big garbage talkers of this web page! |
Apr-03-06 | | yataturk: <dakgootje: Nah ive seen easier puzzles. Easier?!? Yes! Ow... but fortunate for all of us that dear <yataturk> enlighted us with 3 wonderful, well-written and above all profound posts, which will be helpful for all of us if we want to have only a slight notion about this game because of the brilliant contents.> What is there to say about the puzzle? My posts have always been up to par with the puzzle depth.. |
Apr-03-06 | | YouRang: Instead of 34. Qc2, White could have done better with 34. Qd7, but I think it will still end up with Black eating the queenside pawns and having a winning endgame with an outside passed pawn. |
Apr-03-06 | | gerpm: Let's have more Mondays! |
Apr-03-06 | | patzer2: <Zplane> After <16. a4? bxa4 17. Rxa4>??, the move 17...Nc5! is a clear win for Black. |
Apr-03-06 | | Zplane: <patzer2> Very Nice Indeed! I play semi slav and also the queens gambit exclusively and seek when white to push the queens side. Obviously more study will be required. |

Apr-03-06 | | dakgootje: < My posts have always been up to par with the puzzle depth..> Which of course isnt an excuse for first posting 'first', which obviously doesnt mean anything nor says anything about the game or puzzle and only irritates people. Nor is it an excuse for your second post which wasnt even worse as that was probably impossible, though i hope you understand that even the most basic player would see this idea after seeing the last moves of the game. do i need to continue with your third post on this game, which is probably meant as an reaction on some critics on your posts, or do you get it now? And for your question what there is to say about the puzzle, just read patzer2's posts which gives just that little more information then your <QxR allows the pawn to advance.> |

 | | OBIT: Interesting game, IMO. After 16 moves, the position is symmetrical except for the postion of the queen knights. Then the problems start for White, and in the next 16 moves he proceeds to run his position into the ground. 17. Rc2?! looks dubious to me, although it doesn't look bad enough to lose. Evidently, the idea is to double the rooks on the c- or d-file, but it weakens the back rank. As the game continuation shows, this back rank weakness cannot be taken lightly. The real problems start after 21. Bxc5? White puts himself in a passive position and gives his opponent a pawn that is a major nuisance to contain. Instead, I think White can still work his way back to equality by 21. Nb1! and if 21...Ne4 22. f3. Rather than rush to trade off the output knight, White needs to be patient - he will prepare Nd2 and force the knight exchange under his terms. |

Apr-04-06 | | dakgootje: <Relax, go get a cup of warm milk..> Nah ill go for a Beer take one yourself also ;-) |
Apr-04-06 | | iamverywellatchess: Bere for me to! |

Apr-07-06 | | schnarre: A Beer definitely! |
