Nov-26-02  refutor: why is the c4-clamp less effective in a position like this? is it because black can play d5 in one move after already having played e6?
Nov-26-02  drukenknight: what is the c4 clamp?
Nov-26-02  refutor: sorry, i'll try and explain a little better...in lines in the sicilian where black doesn't play an early ...Nf6, black can play c4 putting a clamp on d5 with c4 and e4 called "maroczy's bind". it's not normally used v. the ...e6 and ...a6 setup, so i'm just wondering why
Nov-27-02  drukenknight: oh Maroczy bind that I have heard of.

There is also something called "double ducks" or Canard. Black plays both c4 and e4. Whenver I see this I immediately put blacks QN on d5; it just seems to make sense, you can't just leave a hole there on d4, otherwise wed see lots more openings where players play pawns like that.

by the way, why is Ehlvest giving this one up?

Nov-27-02  drukenknight: why not 10...e5?

keypusher: Really an interesting strategic game by Kasparov, playing ...Bxc3+ and then ...e5, leaving an unexploitable hole at d5 and a backward pawn at d6 that turns out not to be vulnerable. Presumably Kasparov doesn't play ...e5 at move 10 because it's much more effective after he's gotten rid of White's QN.
Nov-16-18  maelith: Instructive game by Kasparov.
