  offramp: A very good game!

White's knight seems to give him a small advantage in this position, after 39...Qd6

But white seems to be in a bit of a tizz as to how to make progress. The queens come off, and after some pawn-swaps we reach this position, after 44...Kf8:

45.Nd6!

The position of white's ♖+♘ gives him a great idea: a mating attack! Black plays 46...Rc2 and now...

47.Kg4! with obvious designs on e6/g6.

White also gives up a pawn to get a passed pawn on the queenside. It looks unstoppable, after 54.b6

...because the knight will protect the pawn on b7, and white has Rc8+ to come.

But if white had played 55.b7

...there is a quick mate! It is not hard to see and it ends in ....Rh6#

So white has to lose all his trump cards and ends up 3 pawns down.
