Feb-28-03  ughaibu: Here's Steinitz again demonstrating modern style against Anderssen's barbarism.

lostemperor: A unofficial worldchampionshipmatch 8-6 with no draws. That must clearly be a form of barbarism! Quite a game.
Mar-01-03  Xpert of the game: What are you talking about?

Anderssen has won this match!!! Not Steinitz!!!

Mar-01-03  ChessPraxis: <to ughaibu> Your comment was meant ironically, I take it? At this stage in his career, Steinitz was trying his best to play like Morphy. I think his nickname was actually "the Austrian Morphy".

<to Xpert> Steinitz lost this game but won the match.

Mar-01-03  ughaibu: ChessPraxis: Yes, I was attempting irony. I dont know the details of when Steinitz changed from the Austrian Morphy to the "man who took the fun out of chess", I was responding to a comment on another game between these two.

lostemperor: I got the picture ugh! Well I was just commenting (actually an example of W.Hartston ) on the styledifference in that one particular game (and rightly so).

<Xpert of the game>, I also dont know that much about chess history , but to put 6 exclamation marks for something that is not true, is at least Xaggeration.

Mar-08-03  bentengutama: both look not hungry
Sep-05-03  fred lennox: This match demonstrates Anderssen's fighting spirit. He won the first game and lost the next four. Exact thing happend with the Morphy match. With this in his memory and knowing desparate attempts to gain lost gound is usually disaster, he won the next four, Steinitz the next two. After this game the score became 6-6.
Sep-05-03  ughaibu: Anderssen's approach was beyond the triviality of match points.
Jan-13-05  aw1988: <Anderssen has won this match!!! Not Steinitz!!!> Actually, Anderssen won the game, but Steinitz won the match.
Jul-18-07  ALEXIN: 21. Qh6 threating penetration in white position via d2 is really a powerful move.
Jul-18-07  lilfoohk: Playing King's gambit aganist an expert of King's gambit , Steinitz is really brave.I thought he would have chosen some quiet lines
Jan-12-10  heuristic: mo' better moves:

16.Bxd6 cxd6 17.Nc7+ Kd8 18.Nxa8 b6

Jan-31-12  Knight13: <lilfoohk: Playing King's gambit aganist an expert of King's gambit , Steinitz is really brave.I thought he would have chosen some quiet lines> I believe "bold" is a more accurate word.

<ALEXIN: 21. Qh6 threating penetration in white position via d2 is really a powerful move.> That move deserves an exclamation mark. 22. h4 is the correct move.

Rocket Ron: Its a pity Morphy retire from Chess because he would have beaten Steinitz and become 1st World Champion
