--*--

Rook endings with several pawns (material advantage)

Rook & three pawns against rook & one pawn - Game 15 & Games 19*, 22*, 26*

Rook & three pawns against rook & two pawns:
- no passed pawns - Games 1 thru 5
- Games 5 & 25 which become a ♖(a♙+h♙):♖ is also a well known theoretical constellation,
- see the following link: 'Game Collection: 22_R+PP vs R by chess User: whiteshark
- the attacker has an extra passed a-pawn - Games 6 & 7 & 8
- the attacker has an extra passed d-pawn - Game 14
- all pawns are passed - Game 24,
- transformed from Rook & four pawns against rook & four pawns: 4:4 --> 3:3 --> 2:3

Rook and four pawns against rook and two pawns - Game 15

Rook and four pawns against rook and three pawns:

Defender keep in mind that you should:
(1) block the enemy's passed pawn as soon as possible, preferably with your king
(2) counterplay on the other side: creation of a passed pawn or weakening the opponent's position.

- Balance on one wing and the attacker has an extra outside a-pawn on the other side.
- the defending rook is in front of the passed pawn - Game 16
- the defending rook is now attacking the passed pawn from the rear while the attacker's rook is supporting it in front - Games 17, 18 & alternate setup Game 21*
- Game 17 shows an important theoretical position that could have arisen for
<extra passed a-pawn in R+4:3||> or <a + 3:3||> - notation attributed to chess User: whiteshark

Rook and five pawns against rook and four pawns on same wing - Game 19

Rook endings with several pawns (material is even and/or positional advantage)

Rook and three pawns against rook and three pawns:
- no passed pawns - Games 9
- only one side has a passed pawn - Games 10, 11 and 12
- both sides have a passed pawn - Game 13

Rook & four pawns against rook & four pawns:
- Attacker has an outside a-pawn - the defending rook is in front of the passed pawn - Game 20
- Attacker has a powerful outpost for it's rook - the defending rook is passive - Game 21
- Pawns on both sides of the board with the attacker has an active rook - Games 22 and 23

Rook & five pawns against rook & five pawns:
- Attacker had a rook on the 7th rank, wins a pawn: 5:5 --> 3:4 --> 2:3 --> 0:2 - Game 25

Attacker must watch out for the defender's stalemate resources - See Games 4, 6
