Tilburg Interpolis 1988

The 12th annual Interpolis International Chess Tournament held in Tilburg, The Netherlands was a category XVI event. Eight grandmasters were invited to play in the double round robin. The participants were (in order of ELO): Anatoli Karpov (2725), Nigel Short (2665), Jan Timman (2660), Lajos Portisch (2630), Johann Hjartarson (2610), Robert Huebner (2600), Predrag Nikolic (2585), and John Van der Wiel (2540). Karpov's return to the Tilburg tournament was a triumphant one as he dominated the event, finishing clear first, a full two points ahead of second place Short. The final standings and crosstable are as follows:
