Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
Corsica Masters (2003)

The 7th Corsica Masters was a knockout tournament played in Bastia, Corsica, France, 1-3 November 2003. The 16 participants had qualified from the Corsica Masters Qualification (2004), a 173-player 9-round Rapid (10 min + 5 sec) Swiss event held on 31 October (at about 4 pm). The four rounds had two games each, plus tiebreak games if necessary. Time control: 20 minutes for the whole game, with 5 seconds added per move from move 1. If 1-1, then two 10 + 5 Rapid games, and if still equal (2-2), two at a time 5 + 5 (one report says 3 + 2) Blitz games. The prize fund was 70,000 euros, with 20,000 euros to the winner. Chief organizer: Léo Battesti and the Corsica Chess Club. Chief arbiter: Stephane Escafre.

Viswanathan Anand beat Veselin Topalov 4-2 in the final and won the event for the fourth time in a row.
