Introduction
This week the tenth annual tournament of the Franklin Chess Club, Betz building, will begin. The entries are S. W. Bampton, William J. Ferris, Arthur Hale, Emil Kemeny, E. S. Maguire, J. P. Morgan, M. Morgan, O. Perry-Smith, D. Stuart Robinson, H. G. Voigt, John Welsh Young and perhaps two or three others. (1)
Synopsis
The leading scores in the Franklin Chess Club tournament are: Kemeny, 15 to 2; Voigt, 12½ to 2½; A. K. Robinson, 9½ to 3½; D. S. Robinson, 12½ to 4½; Bampton, 12½ to 3½. (2)
Mr. Kemeny could not finish his games, as he has made a trip to Hungary, and Mr. A. K. Robinson found that his business engagements prevented his playing in the second round. (3)
At date of writing but a single game remained to be played to decide the first place, namely, the partie between Bampton and Stuart Robinson. Voigt is sure of at least third place, Ferris has a dead cinch on fourth place. (4)
As compared to Mr. Voigt (at 14½), Messrs. D. S. Robinson and Bampton stand 15 each. (5)
Notes
Based upon the contemporary reports the scores of Maguire and M. Morgan were annulled along with the second half scores of Kemeny and A. K. Robinson from the official standings. The games played between Maguire and M. Morgan with D. S. Robinson and Bampton were used to settle the first and second place standings.
