Synopsis
An extraordinary game, lasting for 123 moves, was played at the Manhattan Chess Club yesterday between Hanham and Delmar in a contest for the Martinez trophy. It was the first game of the match, in which Hanham had the move. He opened irregularly and by degreees got the better position in the opening. Delmar then gave up two pieces for a rook without getting much relief, Hanham keeping up the pressure all the time. After over one hundred moves had been recorded Hanham overlooked the proper continuation, which would have won straight off, and when he finally, by a blunder, lost a bishop, his winning chances were gone and the game ended in a draw. This afternoon the second game will be played. (1)

Delmar won the second game of the match for the possession of the Martinez trophy at the Manhattan Chess Club on Saturday, after a stubborn fight lasting for seventy-nine moves. Delmar selected a queen's pawn opening, in teh course of which some fine play was shown by both players. In fact, at one time it seemed as if Hanham had the better position. In the end Delmar won a pawn and the game. Next Saturday the third game will be contested. (2)

Delmar won the third game of the match against Hanham at the Manhattan Chess Club Saturday afternoon, after fifty moves. The latter opened the game irregularly, and got into trouble almost from the start, so Delmar won. The fourth game will be played next Saturday. Present score: Delmar, 2; Hanham, 0; drawn, 1. (3)

The fourth game of the match for possession of the Martinez trophy was played between Delmar and Hanham at the Manhattan Chess Club yesterday. Hanham won after fifty-four moves. Delmar opened with a double Fianchetto and a difficult game ensued. Delmar managed to capture a pawn and established a winning position. The record of the match is: Delmar, 2; Hanham, 1; drawn, 1. The fifth game will be played on next Sunday. (4)
