Introduction
The members of the Manhattan Chess Club are collecting a purse for a match to be played between A. Albin, the Viennese champion, and A. B. Hodges. The players intend signing articles on Saturday next. (1)

Articles were signed yesterday by A. B. Hodges, the local crack, and Adolph Albin, the Viennese champion, for a set match of five games up, to be played at the Manhattan Chess Club. The players will have to make twenty moves an hour and abide by the rules of the fifth American Congress. In case the contestants should score four wins each, the purse, which was subscribed by members of the club will be divided. (2)

The match now in progress at the Manhattan Chess Club, between A. B. Hodges and Adolph Albin, the Viennese expert, is the only event of any moment occupying chess circles at the present time in this country. Herr Albin is not displaying the strength he was believed to possess, Mr. Hodges having won easily in the two games to his credit: the first game was lost by Mr. Hodges by a blunder. The score at the present writing is two games for each player. The match is for a purse of $150; five games up. Should each player score four games, the purse will be divided. (3)
