Introduction
On July 27 [sic; 20] the match between Eugene Delmar, the champion of the Association, and W. H. K. Drawn games to count half for each player. Time limit, twenty moves per hour. (1)

The details for this match are now mostly settled. Nine games are to be played; draws counting ½ each, the player having the best score out of the nine to be the winner. In case of a tie, the first victory in the play off is to decide. The hours of play are from 1 to 5 and 7 to 11 P.M.; the winner to receive $70, the loser $40; other arrangements left with the managers of the N. Y. State Chess Association. (2)

Skaneatles, N. Y., July 20.—The principal experts and amateur performers who are to take part in the coming chess match have arrived here. The chess-master Delmar, accompanied by his second son, Eugene, a boy twelve years old, and his rival Pollock, were landed at Syracuse on Sunday morning. Not finding any railway connection with Skaneateles, Pollock, who strongly believes in severe physical exertion as a preparation for the mental contest, seized the opportunity of tramping it all the way to the Packwood House, a distance of twenty-three miles. He accomplished the feat in about eight hours, arriving about 6 p.m. His opponent came about an hour later, and both appeared to be in excellent condition. (3)
