Sep-08-10 | | yalie: <SatelliteDan: I think the final 4 is a exciding mix of style. However I'm not clear about the World Championship. Does Anand play no matter what happens? Or is the World Championship decided from the outcome of these four playing (Anand, Carlsen, Kramnik, Shirov)?> Bilbao is *just* another tournament, albeit a strong one. It has no ramifications for the world championships, other than any psychological / novelty related ones. Current WC cycle:
Match in 2012 between the Reigning champ (Vishy Anand) and the winner of candidates KO matches. Candidates are:
Topalov, Carlsen, Aronian, Kramnik, Gelfand, Radjabov, Mamedjarov, Kamsky candidates matches scheduled for April 2011 |

Sep-08-10 | | SetNoEscapeOn: <Green Bonsai>
But he said with black. Lasker had white in three of those games. |
Sep-08-10 | | pulsar: Congrats to GM Alexie Shirov for topping this one! It must have been an added boost to finish ahead of Kramnik. |
Sep-09-10 | | freakclub: Wang Hao said in an interview <Chessvibes.com> after his loss to Shirov that he had some "strange illusions" going through his head. He said that this has happened before during the tournament, resulting every time to a loss. Well, whatever those strange illusions are, my boy, you better get rid of them. They won't take you anywhere. |
Sep-09-10 | | nuwanda:
i watched the livestream of the blizzgames at chessvibes, and i always asked myself what move would i play here. and i have to admit that somehow, dont know why, i got the feeling, that maybe they just play a little bit stronger than i do ... |
Sep-09-10 | | percyblakeney: <But he said with black> Indeed, and Anand hasn't lost a game with white in more than four years apart from those four in a row against Aronian. I wonder if any other active top player has lost four in a row with white against another opponent. Strange that one of the all time greats have such terrible results with white against one opponent when they are excellent against all others, he has for example never lost a game with white against Kramnik. |
Sep-10-10 | | kurtrichards: <"strange illusion"> hear and watch this GM Wang Hao... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-GP...
enjoy... :) |
Sep-10-10 | | AuN1: when you look at the game between anand and aronian last year in the final round of the tal memorial, it looks like a grandmaster playing against a patzer in a simul (no offense to anand). |
Sep-12-10 | | mkrk17: Yeah..Anand lost games just to throw Topalov off-board. So that Topa will spend time analysing Anand's mistakes and hence his weaknesses, when in fact Anand just threw those games away. This is chess psychology. Losing games will lose rating points, but in the quest of the WC, rating points is nothing. |

 | | chessgames.com: The Kramnik-Aronian playoff games are here: Shanghai Masters (Playoff) (2010) |
Sep-12-10 | | AuN1: those games were entertaining. good thing kramnik won the armageddon game, because he should have won after the second blitz game. |
Sep-15-10 | | onur87: Im a Turk. In Candidates, I should support Radja or Mamed. But I support Aronian. I believe that, only he can seize the crown from Anands hands.. |
Sep-15-10 | | bharatiy: <onut87> so you hate Anand! Why? |
Sep-15-10 | | onur87: <bharatiy> firstly not onut, onur. And I dont hate Anand. On the contrary, I like Anand. But I like more new young champions as Tal, Kasparov... I believe, these young champions give freshness to chess. And my candidate is Aronian. But his job is very very hard in candidates. |
Sep-15-10 | | bharatiy: <onur87> misspelling was unintentional, sorry for that. If you like youth then Carlsen should be your choice, he is the youngest and current number 1 and ggoing by his latest modelling quite fresh!! But why do you like young player and why not best player? Of course its your choice, but still...... |
Sep-15-10 | | AuN1: how can you decide who the best player is before the matches? they will decide it next year. for now you just support your favorite. |
Sep-16-10 | | bharatiy: I did not say that a particular person is best or no. I am questioning his reasoning that he supports Aronian as he is young. In that logic one should support Carlsen. Also I agree you should have your favorite player and support it and probably dont have to have much reasonable reason for having favorite it can be anything like your country man, his playing style, how your playing style matches his, how he looks..... |
Sep-17-10 | | onur87: <bharity> I support Aronion that he is young and! I think, only Aronian can beat Anand. Just my opinion... I hope I could have explain... |
Sep-17-10 | | AuN1: out of all the candidates, i believe that aronian would be the most difficult opponent for anand, but that is not to say that he couldn't be bested by some of the other participants. personally, i think carlsen, topalov, and kramnik would have a solid match against anand, and the way gelfand has been playing recently, i wouldn't count him out either. |
Sep-17-10 | | bharatiy: in short its crowded at the top! |
Sep-17-10
 | | eternaloptimist: <AuN1>: Anand easily beat kramnik in the world title unification match, so I don't think he would have a tough time w/ him. Although, I do think he would have a tough time w/ aronian, but I don't think he would be the toughest opponent 4 him. I think that carlsen would be his toughest opponent. |
Sep-18-10 | | onur87: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... ... Indeed, who is he? Thanks:) |

I think that carlsen would be his toughest opponent.> you'd be correct if kramnik were playing the same way he was playing at the time of the match with anand in '08, but kramnik has stated that he was not playing at his best during that foray. recently he has scored much better results than he had leading up to that match, and there's little doubt that a match in 2012 between the two would be much more competitive than their '08 encounter. carlsen, on the other hand, has relatively little match experience, so it would be difficult to gauge how well he would do in a battle for the highest title. i for one would not rate his chances higher than aronian's, or kramnik's really, but that is based on inexperience rather than him being a weak player or something like that. |
