 | | Open Defence: <Percy> for some reason the win over Russia did not find its way into the news here in India but our 3-1 loss to Georgia did... |
Sep-06-09 | | percyblakeney: <Open Defence> Without Koneru it looks tough for India, but beating Russia was a very good result (helped a bit by Gunina's forfeit after being 60 seconds late). Prestige match today between Russia and China, and both teams need a win not to lose too much ground to Georgia and Poland. |

 | | Open Defence: yeah, I guess Chiburdanidze is carrying the Georgian flag high as usual... |
Sep-06-09 | | DCP23: <Open Defence: <Percy> for some reason the win over Russia did not find its way into the news here in India but our 3-1 loss to Georgia did...> Well there's a reason. As you maybe know by now, the India-Russia match was really a 1.5:1.5 plus +:- rather than simply 2.5:1.5. Gunina was forfeited on the 4th board (in what would have surely been a win for her and thus a won match, as is evident from her other games and the other games of her opponent) according to the new, optional "zero-tolerance" rule. Furthermore, there are two different witness accounts as to the amount of time Gunina was late for the game. According to her opponent, she was late for 1 minute (this is quoted by <percy> above). According to Evgeny Surov, a journalist now on site in Ningbo and who was actually present at the start of the round too, Gunina was late for exactly 2 seconds. Surov's witness account: < http://kasparovchess.crestbook.com/... > |

 | | Open Defence: yes, but even the controversy did not make the news here.. the Indian sports press seems obsessed with cricket and believe it or not US Lingerie Bowl Football of all things |
Sep-06-09 | | DCP23: <percyblakeney: (helped a bit by Gunina's forfeit after being 60 seconds late).> I disagree strongly with that perspective. It wasn't 'helped a bit', it was only and solely because of that forfeit that the match was won, otherwise it would have been lost for India. Gunina outclasses her opponent by a huge margin, has WON EACH AND EVERY GAME she played so far, and is in great form (just returned from winning the Moscow Blitz Championship), while her opponent LOST EACH AND EVERY GAME she played, all of them to much weaker players than Gunina. |
Sep-06-09 | | DCP23: <Open Defence: the Indian sports press seems obsessed with cricket> He-he... I personally never understood cricket but since my favorite player Peter Svidler is such a big fan of it, can't complain ;) |
Sep-06-09 | | percyblakeney: China-Russia 2-2 (Hou won against Tatiana K. while Nadezhda K. won against Zhao Xue). Surprise win for Armenia against Georgia, so Poland will be in the lead after beating India but their remaining matches look tough: China, Georgia, Russia and Armenia. |
Sep-06-09 | | slomarko: Poland smashed India 3-1 |

 | | Open Defence: I must say I am dissapointed at India being 9th even without Humpy... |
Sep-06-09 | | DCP23: <Open Defence: I must say I am dissapointed at India being 9th even without Humpy...> That's OK, you're without Koneru Humpy, we're without Alexandra Kosteniuk, Ukraine is without Katya Lahno. Of course the Chinese quite unhumorously fielded their strongest, as they always do ;) |

 | | Open Defence: is Socko playing for Poland I imagine she is.. one of the players to have caught my eye.. interesting player as is her husband too |
Sep-06-09 | | percyblakeney: <is Socko playing for Poland> Actually not, Poland is doing extremely well considering that their team is ranked 8th of 10 with a rating average of 2396 (China is 2506, Georgia 2491 and Russia 2480). |
Sep-06-09 | | slomarko: <Open Defence: is Socko playing for Poland I imagine she is.. one of the players to have caught my eye.. interesting player as is her husband too> she is not playing. Poland can toast these weakie teams even without her... |
Sep-06-09
 | | Open Defence: that is impressive.. I hope Poland do well in their upcoming matches against the "strong teams" |
Sep-06-09 | | redwhitechess: just found that the women's world team champ 09 is being discussed here. Hou is win today, and I think Tania Sachdev is on her fourth loses? can we have new section for this event? |
Sep-06-09 | | slomarko: <just found that the women's world team champ 09 is being discussed here. > unfortunately, for reasons which defy logic, CG refused to make a page about the championship in progress and we are forced to use this one. |
Sep-06-09
 | | Open Defence: I think they are slow on the job.. rather than refused.. I did not see a post where they refused to make a page.. maybe I missed it ? |
Sep-06-09
 | | Open Defence: <slomarko> do you live in Poland ? how is the chess scene ? a lot of clubs or is the internet developing the talent ? |
Sep-06-09 | | percyblakeney: <I think they are slow on the job.. rather than refused..> It has been suggested several times the last five days, so I guess they just don't care about this World Championship... |
Sep-06-09
 | | Open Defence: could it be some people are on vacation with the US Holiday on Monday ? |
Sep-07-09 | | redwhitechess: today hot: Irina Krush vs Hou Yifan. had they met before? |
Sep-07-09 | | percyblakeney: <redwhitechess> Yep, Hou lost when she was 11 and 300 points lower rated but only has wins since then, and now that there is a proper page at Yinzhou Cup Women World Teams (2009) these discussions can be moved there :-) |
