The 65th Russian Women's Championship Superfinal was played 9-20 August 2015 in the Youth Palace 'Megapolis Sport' in the eastern city of Chita, Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia, not far from Mongolia and China. Rest day: August 15. The line-up featured most of the top names, including defending champion Gunina and Kateryna Lagno, who made her debut after switching from Ukraine. Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 more minutes to the end of the game, with a 30 second increment from move 1. No agreed draws allowed before move 40. Total prize fund (men & women): 8 million roubles (~$127,000), with 530,000 roubles (~$8,400) to the woman champion. If players tied for first, a playoff would be held (two 15+10 Rapid games and eventually an Armageddon). Aleksandra Goryachkina (at age 16) won with 8/11. "On February 25, 2009 she married Robert Fontaine, French chess grandmaster and TV reporter." Fontaine doesn't sound very Russian to me, but I'll take you're word for it. How badly did Kosteniuk take her husband to the cleaners in the divorce settlement, I wonder? older men never realize they need a pre nup agreement when marrying a younger woman. A mistake that gets repeated over and over. |
