Atterdag: Huge congrats to Valentina Gunina, winning the world championship in blitz with impressive 14/17. Runner-up Kosteniuk 13½/17. Gunina totally crushed Ju Wenjun and Anna Muzychuk on her way. And that with the relative modest rating of 2348. Bravo!
Jan-03-24  Ibrahimoglu: 29-Dec-2023 Lviv (the home city of Muzychuk sisters) was attacked by russian missiles. It would be surprising if Anna or Maria demonstrated great perfomance that time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67l...

  Atterdag: Hi, <Ibrahimoglu>,

Evidently, all Ukrainian chessplayers are heavily burdened by their country's struggle for survival and the many deaths of civilians caused by the Russian war criminals, but I don't think even the Muzychuk sisters themselves would use that as an excuse for their defeats in a game of chess.

Let's instead salute these brave women and men for participating and holding a torch of resistance in these gloomy times. May 2024 be the year, when Ukraine shall be deliberated from their evil enemies.

Feb-06-24  paavoh: IMO, Gunina has an uncompromising style of play even in the classical format, and it served her well here in the blitz (+12, =4, -1).
