Aug-20-09  Jason Frost: First, I really don't understand the point of these matches.

China is bringing top guns(top 3 layers playing) Russia is bringing number 8, 10, t11, 28

Still should be a close match I think.

Aug-21-09  Ladolcevita: <jason frost>
Because Russia is a stronger chess-nation.
Aug-21-09  Don Cossacks: If VK is here then goodbye China!
Having Tomashevsky,Malakhov(reigning European champions) plus Nepo is enough to face the Chinese.
Aug-21-09  Jason Frost: Current score using <CG> since I can't find a website <Russia 4 wins> (17 draws) <China 3 Wins> Lineup for the two countries:

Aug-21-09  Don Cossacks: Thanks for the info <Jason Frost>. A good line-up on both sides but I think Russia has fielded a "correct" line-up this time.China's strategy on this match is to collect many points on their lowest rated player as can be observed in the women's event with Huang Qian and in this section with Ding Liren but the Russians definitely know what they're doing of course.

Well, imagine Kramnik, Svidler, Morozevich, Grischuk playing. It would be no fun for the Chinese, I can assure you. As it is, it's a fairly competitive match-up with either side having good chances at overall victory.

This is the official site:

http://russiachess.org/content/view...

Unfortunately, it provides the scoretables as MS Excel files ONLY.

These are direct links:

Men's table: http://www.russiachess.org/download...

Women's: http://www.russiachess.org/download...

There are also photo reports (the direct links I've already posted above) and of course a link for an online transmission, which is easy to find even if you don't read Russian.

Aug-21-09  DCP23: The classical phase is over, and the results are:

MEN: Russia 13 : 12 China
WOMEN: Russia 11.5 : 13.5 China

That, again, is the first part of a 3-part match, the one played under classical (FIDE) time controls.

The second part -- rapid -- started today and will continue tomorrow.

JointheArmy: Russia's B team still beat China? So much for the hype.
Aug-21-09  chessmoron: <JointheArmy> You mean the Chinese man. The combined score is that China won by one.

I still like the 2007 Scheveningen format where there's more games.

Aug-21-09  DCP23: The first day of rapids, 5 out of 10 rounds, ended with these results:

MEN: Russia 13 : 12 China
WOMEN: Russia 12.5 : 12.5 China

Tomorrow 5 more rounds of rapids will be played, followed by a blitz part of the match.

Aug-21-09  DCP23: <chessmoron: <JointheArmy> You mean the Chinese man. The combined score is that China won by one.>

Not anymore :P

The Grand Total as of right now is 50:50. But really, combining scores from different matches like that does not make much sense.

Aug-21-09  Ladolcevita: wanghao isnt participating£¡¡£¡£¡£¡£
Aug-22-09  ex0duz: Zhou Jianchao, 2623, 21, #6
Ding Liren, 2530, 16, #14(Chinese Champion)

Is not China's A team.

Theres a huge difference there when you consider Russias 2 bottom players..

Artyom Timofeev, 2681, 24 t#11
Ian Nepomniachtchi, 2632, 19, #28

Look at the rating differences. High 2600 vs low, and 2500 vs 2600. Not that surprising to think that Russia is favourite to take this. Their team is much more well rounded.

As Ladocevita stated, Wang Hao is not participating.. WHY THE @#$% NOT? I opened this page just to see if he was. Disappointing, i wanted to see him in the Youth vs Old competition too.

Aug-22-09  Ladolcevita: <exoduz>
the rumor has it that its because WangHao lost a game very casually in Olympiad against Vietname...
Aug-22-09  DCP23: 1st today's Rapid round (6th overall in Rapids) is over, 4 more rounds to follow soon.

the results are:

MEN: Russia 4.5 : 0.5 China
WOMEN: Russia 3 : 2 China

Aug-22-09  Ladolcevita: <DCP23>
Sina reported after 5 rounds,it is:
MEN: RUSSIA 2:3(13:12) CHINA
WOMEN:RUSSIA 2:3(12.5:!2.5) CHINA

How come the result like this after 6 rounds?

Aug-22-09  DCP23: <Ladolcevita> For the results of the classical part and of the first 5 rapid rounds, see my posts above.

My previous post is the results of the 6th rapid round, which finished just minutes ago.

Aug-22-09  Ladolcevita: oh,i see...a miserable 6th round for we chinese audience.... BTW,,are you russian??
Aug-22-09  DCP23: <Ladolcevita: BTW,,are you russian??>

Yes.

Aug-22-09  Ladolcevita: <DCP23>
LOL~~~~~well,Russians are really amazing~~~You see,I once liked Sharapova and Safin for some time, and when I was a kid, everybody should read<how the steel was tempered>,and I still remember a bit about the plot, like burying the gun?in the prison?...and those Russian folk songs and revolutionary songs are really popular at that age too... I think Russians are quite talented both physically and mentally~~

HAHA~~BTW,if idont remember wrong,You are the first Russian I have talked to.

Aug-22-09  Ladolcevita: <Oh,and its also very famous here> The Pushkin's poem<If by life you were deceived>....seems everybody loves to quote when something miserable has occurred...

Hope its not the stereotype~~~

Aug-22-09  DCP23: <Ladolcevita: when I was a kid,everybody should read<how the steel was tempered>,>

Interesting. When I was a kid, it was part of the school program too. But...

<and I still remember a bit about the plot,like burying the gun?in the prison?...>

...since I haven't read it myself, I can't say anything about the plot :)))

<HAHA~~BTW,if idont remember wrong,You are the first Russian I have talked to.>

Well, I'm happy to provide that experience for you ;)))
