Dec-16-11  Waitaka: <AylerKupp> I am also sorry to be on the top 5. But, alas, someone has to be there.

<Golden Executive> Excelent flash back, I can say that again.

(see, I am saving posts, by addressing two subjetcs in one post!) :)

Dec-16-11  kb2ct:

I just watched the documentary "Bobby Fischer versus The World"

It is avaible at Amazon for around twenty bucks.

Surprisingly accurate

  AylerKupp: <Golden Executive>, <blue wave>, <Waitaka> Thanks for the kind words. You're actually making me blush!
Dec-20-11  karpkasp: <Golden Executive> don't forget kutztown46 who contributed a lot in the various fora.

<Waitaka> I think your pre-voting forum is very useful, especially during the opening phase. Thank you for all your work.

Dec-21-11  Golden Executive:

<karpkasp: don't forget kutztown46 who contributed a lot in the various fora.>

Very nice post <karpkasp>, you gave me the chance to mention why there is no way to forget <kutztown46>´s contributions.

Let me quote (once again) a <Waitaka>´s post:

<Aug-21-11
Waitaka: <A group in itself does not necessarily constitute a team. Teams normally have members with complementary skills and generate synergy through a coordinated effort which allows each member to maximise his/her strengths and minimise his/her weaknesses. Team members need to learn how to help one another, help other team members realize their true potential, and create an environment that allows everyone to go beyond their limitations.> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team>
.

<kutztown46> supplied (as much other Team members did ) a lot of engine outputs in order to help the World Team for analysis tasks, but he also was in charge of one of the most difficult tasks here:

World Team´s forum organization.

Sounds easy but, believe me, it is not!

You can just ask <WinKing> about it.

I also want to say thanks to <WinKing> for taking a lot of responsibilities:

-hosting an analysis forum,

-backing-up <kutztown46>,

-statistics of the game and

-the sticky.

And he did it in an excelent way.

Yes, we are a great Team!

Dec-21-11  Waitaka: <kaspkarp> Thank you for contribute on the forum.

<Golden Executive> I am surprised by your memory, bringing back these old posts. It is good to know that people were reading it. ;)

And since you talked about the hard work <kutztown46> did outside the main forum, lets also remember his and <YouRang> hard work on the Analysis Tree.

But I think it is unfair to evaluate the contribution of people on this game based only on the number of posts one did.

IMHO, every single post that started, supported or criticized an idea, every single post that helped prganize the effort, that did bring light, humor or cosy to the forum, and even posts that challanged the team or the team ideas, everyone of them did contributed to the result of this game. And lets also not forget the silent voters, wich sere allways remembered when anyone tried to defend a point of view, or an strategy.

I know, we expected, or hoped for a win. But lets not forget that the main goal is the path.

The endings we aimed for are nowhere near complicated enough for correspondence chess.

Dec-23-11  morfishine: <kb2ct> Excellent documentary on Fischer
Dec-23-11  kb2ct:

<morfishine:>

Glad you liked the Fischer documentary. You probably can rent it at Netflicks or similar service.

A little disturbing to see what 40 years passage of time can do. A lot of people I use to consider swarthy now have gray hair.

:0)

Dec-24-11  morfishine: <kb2ct> Actually, I think I watched a different documentary: "Bobby Fischer vs The World". 37 minutes with interviews from both Fischer and Spaasky.

A few months ago I went on a "Fischer craze" watching all the videos I could Google: The "Whats my Line" video and Dick Cavett and all that. I'll have to see the "Against The World"...Thanks for the heads up

Dec-24-11  RookFile: Looked like the World Team held the draw in this game pretty easily.
Dec-24-11  kb2ct:

<morfishine:>

The title is actually "Bobby Fischer Against The World"

Directed by Liz Garbus, the DVD also contains "A History Of Chess: The Fight For Fischer's Eatate"

Wxcelllent film

  kwgurge: The recent biography of Fischer written by Frank Brady is also excellent and an easy read.
Dec-25-11  morfishine: <kwgurge> I wasn't mush impressed with Brady's book on Fischer "Endgame". Too generalized, glossing over important parts.

I thought Brady's first book on Fischer "Profile of a Prodigy" was a heckuva lot better.

But, thats just me

Dec-26-11  TheFocus: The problem with <Endgame> is there are many mistakes in it. Brady had a research staff helping him and there was a lot of shoddy work. Appalling!

  kwgurge: I agree with both criticisms of <Endgame> but the glimpses and insights into the mind of Fischer from someone who knew and observed him throughout all stages of his life were fascinating...a troubled genius, but boy could that guy play chess!
Dec-26-11  morfishine: <kwgurge> Perhaps I got my expectations up to high for "Endgame". However, there were some revealing points. For example, I had sympathized when Fischer complained that his storage facilities were raided and he lost those momentos. Now, I'm not so sympathetic. Looks like it was plain neglect on his part.

Did you read Brady's first book on Fischer?

Dec-26-11  karpkasp: <waitaka> <kaspkarp> Thank you for contribute on the forum.

karpkasp please :)
I stopped contributing after the opening phase: not enough time for me to be sure about the next move to vote.

Your forum could be even more informative if people explain why they support the move (DB stats, success in tournament practice...).

Merry Christmas to all!

Dec-26-11  benjinathan: <kb2ct:> There is an interview with |Garbus from earlier this year on the cbc radio1 website which was pretty good. It is on the studio Q programme.
Dec-26-11  morfishine: <kwgurge> BTW: Another really good Fischer book is "Bobby Fischer Goes to War" by David Edmonds and John Eidinow

  kwgurge: <morfishine> I did read "goes to war." I didn't read the first Brady book. I'll look for it. Thanks.
Dec-27-11  kb2ct:

<morphishine>

A little background stuff on the 1972 Fischer-Spasky telecast.

Dec-27-11  morfishine: <kb2ct> Thanks for the link! I could only get through about half but will finish later on today. :)
Dec-27-11  cro777: <kb2ct> Have you found some useful New In Chess ideas for testing? I left a message for you in your forum.
Dec-27-11  kb2ct:

<morfishine:.

Kingcrusher found that link by googling my real name.

Fischer-Spassky was PBS's first hit program. They got thousands of protest calls when they canceled coverage to cover the Republican national convention. Apparently people thought Fischer was more important than Nixon by a wide margin
