 | | OhioChessFan: I have tried 18. Bd3 and am having some luck with it. When I went back to the kibitzing to see what we said and what Black planned as a followup, I didn't find a single comment. And at most, one person voted for it. |
Sep-13-09
 | | OhioChessFan: After a day and a half with Fritz, I think 18. Bd3 is close to winning. If someone has Rybka3 and has some time, I'd appreciate if you let it run for a while. |
Sep-14-09 | | YouRang: <OhioChessFan> Well, I have Rybka2. What does Fritz say to 28...b6 ? |
Sep-14-09
 | | OhioChessFan: 18. Bd3 b6 19. Bc4 Nb5 20. cxb6 axb6 21. Bxb5 cxb5 22. Rd2 g6 23. Nxd4 Nxd4 24. Kh1 f5 25. Rfd1 Qg7 26. Rxd4 Rxd4 27. Qxd4 Qxd4 28. Rxd4 fxe4 29. Rxe4

 | | OhioChessFan: Can't be dogmatic about the above. Black has many options, starting with 18...a5. Viable options at the 24th and 25th move too. I sure like the positions for White though. |
Sep-15-09 | | YouRang: <OhioChessFan> Interesting, my Rybka2 didn't like 24...f5 much for black. What does Fritz thing about 24...Qe6 then? |

Sep-15-09 | | YouRang: <OhioChessFan> That's pretty much the same line that I came up with, although black has other choices besides 28...Qc2. I'm looking at 28...Rc8 (threatening ...Qc1+) 29.h3 Qe2 (with the threat of ...Rc2) 30.Rg1 h5 [diagram]

White might be a little better thanks to the extra pawn, but the white rook bottled up and a nice shelter for the black king, it looks like a difficult game to convert to 1-0, IMO. |
Sep-15-09
 | | OhioChessFan: Fritz greatly prefers 30...h6 in that line at lower plies. |
Sep-16-09
 | | OhioChessFan: I have to agree <YouRang> It is amazing how much the pawn on f3 hurts our chances. So then, back to White's 13th and the agonizingly slow run of my engine on the 960 program. |
Sep-16-09
 | | OhioChessFan: <BlueWave> I just saw your Hiarcs analysis of 18. Bd3 on page 178. Can you run 18....b6? |
Sep-16-09 | | blue wave: <OCF> OK, I'll give<18.Bd3> a good look on Friday with Hiarcs. Not much time till then. |
Sep-16-09 | | AnalyzeThis: You guys are amazing. The game is over, and you're still analyzing it like GM's. |
Sep-16-09
 | | plang: Are compuers really usefull during the early stages of a FischerRandom game? |
Sep-16-09
 | | OhioChessFan: I think it's about the same as classical chess <plang> I don't know why, but my Fritz runs at about 1/3 the speed analyzing 960 than classical chess. Computers can be nearly as useless in endgames. I think Team White saw we were dead drawn long before the engines did in this game. I have 12. Be1 up and running and will see if I can grind 20 plies out. |
Sep-16-09
 | | OhioChessFan: I also want to spend some carbon analysis on 13. f3. Though Fritz liked the move, I don't think engines understand how weakening pushing the f pawn is. Opening the second rank up like that was a real problem in many endgame positions. The 18. Bd3 lines I looked at above show how strong a defense having g pawn on the third rank is vis a vis the f pawn. |
Sep-16-09 | | YouRang: <OhioChessFan><...I don't know why, but my Fritz runs at about 1/3 the speed analyzing 960 than classical chess. > Does it resume normal speed after both sides have castled? |
Sep-16-09 | | YouRang: <OhioChessFan> BTW, did you ever try the 12.Be1 move that <Gypsy> had recommended? It still looks like an odd move to me, but then again I might be too narrow-minded. |
Sep-16-09
 | | OhioChessFan: I don't know if the castling is the point that slows it up. I usually just set it back to classical chess analysis mode then. Working on the 20th ply, Fritz says 13...0-0 .61
13....Bf6 .73
Alas, I forgot what the evals were before that. |
Sep-16-09
 | | OhioChessFan: Fritz apparently prefers 12. Be1 0-0 13. 0-0 so I will flip it over to regular chess and see what happens. I have determined that once both sides have castled, it doesn't help the computing speed. |
Sep-17-09
 | | OhioChessFan: Latest development.
12. Be1 0-0 13. 0-0 Bf6 14. f3 1.23 at 23 plies. That's a pretty hefty jump in evals. |
Sep-17-09
 | | Gypsy: Great work <OhioChessFan>; that is a really thorough 'post-mortem' you are running! |
Sep-17-09 | | YouRang: <I have determined that once both sides have castled, it doesn't help the computing speed.> It seems like a bug then (or at least sloppy implementation of the FRC support). Once both sides have castled, it's just regular chess. |
Sep-17-09 | | YouRang: <AnalyzeThis: You guys are amazing. The game is over, and you're still analyzing it like GM's.> We're gonna win this one yet! |
Sep-17-09 | | whiteshark: Is computer assistance for post-mortem allowed?? |
