  kingfu: hey cro,

Have we come up with ideas against 1....d6?

I am kind of leaning towards the gloves off approach to his Caro with the Van der Wiel.

  kingfu: chrisowen,

Love that stuff. Keep it going!

Were you Lord Buckley in another life?

For you folks looking for a contrast (or possible translation) go to lordbuckley.com

Jul-31-12  cro777: <kingfu> In the GM Akobian's favorite Czech System after

1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 c6

the move 4.f4 is considered to be the most dangerous for Black.

The main continuation is 4...Qa5 5.Bd3.

Jul-31-12  The Last Straw: ....………
Jul-31-12  Boomie: The Team has tended to play openings that are relevant to GM play. This way we can learn about the "hot" openings and maybe find something new. You can bet that the top players and analysts in the world are examining our games for new ideas.

Notice that we don't always play e4. In fact, in three games with white we've played d4 twice. Players new to the Challenge should play through our previous games at http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Notice that there were other teams called The World. We are the Chessgames Challenge version.

Jul-31-12  cormier: night ...
Jul-31-12  parmetd: In regards to the Caro Kann. I have played both the Short and Van Der Wiel. I highly recommend the Van Der Wiel over the Short because it will give our advantage in computing power a place to be felt.

I would also say we should consider the Botvinnik Panov attack as well.

Jul-31-12  shallowred: e4 !
I read somewhere that Dr. Tarrasch once said of Lasker something like: "Lasker plays e4; getting to an endgame".

We are allowed to use engines; but what about a seance?

I think Korchnoi has some experience with that.

Jul-31-12  Golden Executive: <We are allowed to use engines; but what about a seance?>

Well, is not prohibited!

:)

Jul-31-12  cro777: <parmetd: I would also say we should consider the Botvinnik Panov attack as well.>

In the Panov Botvinnik attack GM Akobian plays the solid <5...Nc6> line

1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4. c4 Nf6 5. Nc3 Nc6

6. Bg5 <usually leads to a hard fought middlegame> Be6 <the most popular response>. 7. Be2 Qa5 8. c5 Ne4 9. Bd2 Nxd2 10. Qxd2 g6 11. Bb5 Bg7

In the U.S. Championship 2012 Akobian lost to Ray Robson in this line.

Jul-31-12  YouRang: <OhioChessFan: Okay. Here's the current position: >

Perhaps you can show it with the board flipped? It might help us gain insight on what GMVA is thinking...

OhioChessFan: I don't know if we can corral the crew, but we probably should know <now> what the expectation is regarding a French or a Caro Kann.
Jul-31-12  shallowred: YouRang / Ohio;

Looks like we have already "turned the tables" on him!

Jul-31-12  shallowred: What about group-oath?
No engines.
Honor-system; of course.
Aug-01-12  parmetd: shallowred why would we do no Engines? Might as well cancel the challenge instead if you don't like corr chess.
Aug-01-12  Boomie: <OhioChessFan: I don't know if we can corral the crew, but we probably should know <now> what the expectation is regarding a French or a Caro Kann.>

Please copy your Panov analysis to the Analysis Forum. Thanks.

Aug-01-12  Golden Executive: Hey <kingfu>:

Natalia Pogonina

Have you ever heard about "Spacebar Masters"?

Aug-01-12  SamAtoms1980: <kingfu> I was thinking more like Geoffrey Chaucer.

Tabanus: <Ohio>'s is flipped, but mirrored? Still hoping to change the vote: 1.8c!

click for larger view

Aug-01-12  SamAtoms1980: <Tabanus> If we voted that move in, I think Akobian would play 1....5e (or 1....4e if he wanted to go sharp) and our team would quickly find itself in over -- or should I say next to -- its head.

Unless one of us was Spider-Man.

Or a ninja.

Aug-01-12  morfishine: Ok, I'm convinced, changed my vote to <1.bc>
Aug-01-12  Pedro Fernandez: Hay friends!
Someone may tell me at what time the game starts. Okay above says voting ends at 13:00 ET but I'm not sure if it is also starting game time. Thanks!
