Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-04-08  MichAdams: One of the best British players of the 1960s. Deserves a <cg.com> bio.
Mar-04-08  square dance: isnt that about the equivalent of being one of the best american soccer players of 1980s?
Mar-04-08  MichAdams: I would say the best American soccer players of the 2000s.
Mar-04-08  square dance: :-O what about coby, or toby, or whatever his name is? you need to think about that guy and then maybe you'll come to a different conclusion.
Mar-04-08  MichAdams: A look at England's team for the 1966 Olympiad in Havana shows Peter Clarke, Peter Lee, Norm Littlewood, Hindle, <The Great Raymondo> and Bill Hartston. Jon Penrose couldn't make it due to work commitments.

They ended up placing 7th in the B group final, and 21st overall.

Considering that only 18 years later, England were placing 2nd in the 1984 Olympiad in Thessalonika, it shows that all British chess needed to regain its former glory was a touch of professionalisation and some younger blood.

GrahamClayton: Hindle wrote a book about the 1963 Piatigorsky Tournament in Los Angeles. Hindle annotated the bare scores from the "Los Angeles Times", which was sent to Hindle back in Norwich.
