Aug-10-07 | | mr.fisk: We need some action on this page! Lie is playing the chess of his life in Tromso, http://arcticchess.org/engindex.htm |
Aug-11-07 | | Appaz: <mr.fisk> He surley deserves more attention. A quick summary: 6.5/7 with two rounds to go, a TPR of 2782 and Magnus Carlsen up next. You need luck to win a tournament, and Lie has had his fair share of it so far, like when Mikhalevski missed the winning 33.Qxf6! Against Carlsen his chances lays in playing white with good knowledge of both the style and openings of his opponent. The "friends factor" can also easily compensate for a couple of hundred rating points. Go, Kjetil, one more for Telemark! |
Aug-11-07 | | cotdt: Lie was Carlsen's second and knows Carlsen's playing style well. Lie's playing style is amazing, sacrifices and hanging peices everywhere. Be sure not to miss today's game against Carlsen! |

 | | Peligroso Patzer: As posted hereinabove on Aug-10-05:
<TheAlchemist: Kjetil A Lie: "I am not related to Odd Lie." >From a posting today on the Magnus Carlsen page (#600): <whiteshark: <Peligroso Patzer ...Kjetil Lie - any relation to the notorious Odd Lie, I wonder?> Yes Kjetil A Lie and Espen Lie are grandchildren of Odd Lie.
User: Tabanus, whom is also paricipating at the Arctic Chess Challenge in Tromsö asked Kjetil Lie directly a few days ago...> So which statement is the real odd lie?
Aug-11-07 | | Karpova: <Tabanus: I asked GM Lie today. He and IM Lie are brothers, and Odd Lie was their *grandfather*. I told him about the Odd Lie page on cg.com... I don't think he'll be offended.>
User: Tabanus There's no need not to trust him. And <Tabanus> had the chance to ask him (he played against Lie in the first round) |
Aug-11-07 | | whiteshark: Looking at <TheAlchemist>' sentence, he punned...ambiguously. :D |
Aug-11-07 | | Appaz: Draw for Lie against Carlsen, and still a half point ahead of Moiseenko before the 9th round. He has gained rating for every game so far. |
Aug-12-07
 | | Peligroso Patzer: Lie’s fantastic run at the Arctic Chess Challenge came up one-half point short of first place when he lost the following game earlier today: GM Kjetil A. Lie (NOR) (2536) - GM Vugar Gashimov (AZE) (2655)

 | | Peligroso Patzer: As the following variations demonstrate, Lie was facing either mate or loss of his Queen within a few moves in the final position:

Aug-13-07 | | Appaz: Final result: 7/9, shared 2nd with Carlsen and Gashimov and TPR of 2675. A very nice tournament. |
Dec-03-07 | | cotdt: It seems like Lie throws his games against Carlsen. He makes unsound sacrifices out of the blue, which loses instantly. |
Dec-03-07 | | frogbert: from the bio above:
<Lie's playing style is aggressive and sacrificial> cotdt, lie always plays like that, it just has started to look like "throwing games" after carlsen became "too strong" for kjetil. :o) gm lie used to have a very good record against carlsen, actually :o) |
Dec-03-07 | | frogbert: i think it's more exact to say that lie makes sacrifices out of the blue - the outcome can be anything :o) just consider this trashing of 150 points higher rated cheparinov in 2005: K Lie vs I Cheparinov, 2005 |
Mar-10-08 | | TheGladiatres: Kjetil is playing a nice game right now in Reykjavik, he will move into second place I think if he win this one. http://www.skaksamband.is/index.php... |
Nov-16-08 | | shahjinan: Today he found historical win for China.... I seen game....His analysis is up to the mark...I believe he will be high rated pretty soon... I am from India....Fan of Anand and Carlsen;) |
Nov-16-08 | | hormuspeston: Still haven't read all the posts... Came here wondering if the name was a creative spelling of the phrase "Tell a Lie"! |

 | | Tabanus: I've said this before: GM Lie is very talented!

<During the 2007 candidates matches in Elista, Lie served as Magnus Carlsen's second, helping with analysis and preparations. He was praised by Magnus's father for his efforts and humor. In Wijk aan Zee this year he mainly assists Magnus by playing squash with him in the evenings.> http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |

Nov-18-12 | | waustad: Happy B'day! You just flipped 6 bits! |

Jan-30-15 | | zanzibar: <Tabanus>'s link above is now stale, or rather, has evolved into a generic page without information on Kjetil. I would recommend copying text from profile pages to avoid future link-rot in cases like this. Maybe not the entire article but enough to get the sourcing of relevant facts preserved in the record. For instance, the biography above mentions that Kjetil is Odd's grandson, yet the wiki article referenced doesn't have any info on that. Where did this information come from?
After looking up a few Norwegian chess terms with google translate, I found this: <Today plays in portrait GM Kjetil A.Lie. The 29-year-old reigning NM grew
up on Brattås at Porsgrunn. Kjetil comes from a real chess family. Grandfather Odd K. Lie was Norwegian Champion in mail chess, including in 1985. The father Gunnar Lie a very competent hobby player who participates regularly in tournaments. Brother IM Espen Lie belongs the ultimate layer of Norwegian players and became Norwegian Champion in 2007 after having won stikkampen against club mate Geir Sune Østbye Tallaksen who became a reality when both ended alike after nine rounds under Hamar NM.> (English)
