Oct-09-11  tonsillolith: Maybe it's an unjustifiable connection, but when I saw this game I was reminded of Kasparov vs Ivanchuk, 1995
Oct-09-11  Riverbeast: I thought Short played excellently this game....And it had a real aesthetic quality

I particularly liked his Rh7-g7, Ke8-f8-g8-h7 maneuver.....Followed by freeing the rook

Oct-09-11  andrewjsacks: Well, is it my imagination, or is 29.Bg5 merely a blitz howler?
Oct-10-11  DWINS: <andrewjsacks>, I think "howler" is overstating it a bit, but certainly 29.Bg5 isn't optimal.

According to Houdini 1.5a, Kasparov didn't followup correctly. Instead of 31.Qe3, he should have played 31.Bxb5+ Kc8 32.Qd3 Nxb1 33.Qxb1 Qb6 34.Bd3 Kb8 35.Na6+ Ka7 36.Nb4 h4 37.g4 Qc7 38.Qb3 Rh8 39.Kh2 Qa5 40.Qb2 Rc8 41.f4 Qc7 42.Qa2+ Kb8 43.Na6+ Bxa6 44.Bxa6 Rh8 45.Qb2+

Oct-10-11  andrewjsacks: Thank you for the good reply, DWINS; I meant that my suspicion is that the loss of the exchange was overlooked.
Oct-10-11  whiteshark: <St. George Defense: <New St. George. <Traditional Line>>>

hmmmm, the new traditional St.G.

LOL! Somebody's as confused as I am. ;)

Oct-10-11  DarthStapler: Is this the first time Kasparov has ever lost to the St. George?
Oct-10-11  tivrfoa: Kasparov also blunder (29. Bg5)!!! So I can too. xD Nice.
Oct-16-11  theprez98: Even though it's only a blitz game, really nice to see the St. George again. Interesting that the English used it to defeat both giants Karpov (by Miles) and Kasparov here.
Dec-29-11  mcgee: and just like the famous Karpov v Miles game from the European championship in 1980, White refrains from asking Black immediate questions with 3 a2-a4. This I think is the best move...
Jul-08-13  The Rocket: <Thank you for the good reply, DWINS; I meant that my suspicion is that the loss of the exchange was overlooked.>

Yes I wonder too if it was overlooked or a misjudgement?

  louispaulsen88888888: I don’t even think 29 Bg5 is a blunder.
Stockfish, for example, seems at a loss as to how to continue after

1) +1.77 (27 ply) 29.Nc2 Bc6 30.Ra1 Ke8 31.Nb4 Bb7 32.Kh2 Qb6 33.Nc2 Rh8 34.Kg2 Rh7 35.Ra2 Qc7 36.Ra7 Qb6 37.Ra1 Bc6 38.Qf4 Bb7 39.Kh2 Bc6 40.Ra2 Bb7 41.Kg1 Bc6 42.Ra1 Rh8

Both sides just marking time
