| Violence: <Nigel Short> Six dollars? The last tie I bought cost me 140 from the brooks brothers but I like that one even better! Maybe next time I want to go shopping I will just buy a ticket to china. Ill save that much on ties. I never knew that I always found it interesting how a place as large as china managed to stay so low key in the history books. |

| Nigel Short: <jacparov> Because no English players qualified. In addition, unlike Ivan "No-handshake" Cheparinov or Vladislav "Drunk-as-a-skunk" Tkachiev, none of us qualify as personal favourites of the FIDE President - the most convenient route to bypass entry on merit. |

| Eyal: Adams actually qualified by rating (according to the lists of 7/2008 & 1/2009), but he preferred to play in the London tournament - and maybe after the way FIDE handled the present WC cycle, he wants nothing to do with it anyway (he did retire from the Grand Prix). Besides rating, the other way to qualification for English players was through the European Championships of 2008 & 2009, which counted as "zonals" - I think the only English GMs who tried that were Gawain Jones and Peter Wells, both unsuccessfully. |
