andrewjsacks: Tonight's game 6: from the movie "The Great Escape." Heat still alive and kicking.

andrewjsacks: Of course, Jerry Hanken is dead....

Jun-18-13 Carlsen vs Anand, 2013 (replies)

andrewjsacks: Kramnik is a gentleman? Maybe. But he will always have bad karma because of not offering Garry a return match of 24 games, despite any and all then-current "regulations," which Kasparov showed could be circumvented if one leaves FIDE and simply acts ethically.

   Jun-18-13 Pillsbury vs Tarrasch, 1903

andrewjsacks: Tarrasch playing the Schliemann?! Almost as hard for me to imagine as Karpov playing the King's Gambit.

andrewjsacks: Now, in the '70s I entered a Master's program. They said that it was also offered online--but that I'd have to wait about 20 years. So I just took it the traditional way. I don't have that much patience.

   Jun-16-13 Tal Memorial (2013) (replies)

andrewjsacks: I suggest 11.3 points for a win, with White, 12.6 with Black; 4.6 for a draw with White, but 5.2 with Black; and no points for a loss--except on Thursdays, when one gets .3 points. You know, Thursdays are especially tough--especially in the Balkans!

   Jun-16-13 NN vs F Rhine, 2013 (replies)

andrewjsacks: One more thing: since that was my post number 1895, I made it from Hastings, just to be most appropriate.

   Jun-14-13 Albert Chow

andrewjsacks: <FSR> Thanks for the link. Very interesting indeed.

   Jun-13-13 Lasker vs W Gledhill, 1895 (replies)

andrewjsacks: His choice of opening was apparently a nod to his distinguished predecessor, a genius Lasker respected greatly and helped memorialize in his Manual of Chess. No greater tribute to Steinitz has ever been written.
