Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-27-04  notsodeepthought: What a game from the opening of the day! Black was down a queen for two pieces after 12 moves, but maintained the initiative and after 32 ... Nc3+!, the draw is probably inevitable.
Nov-28-04  Shams: yeah I think short started walking around the tournament hall at that point...must have thought it was in the bag ;)
Nov-28-04  solstys: Was this a blitz game? Why does White take the bishop with his rook on move 29 and why does he move the king to b1 on move 32? Short lost a huge advantage.
Nov-28-04  Charz: Wasted Dithering
Mar-15-05  Karpova: Short demonstrated his playing strength and killer instinct once more!
Jan-01-09  Karpova: <solstys: Was this a blitz game?>

No, this is from the 2nd European Chess Championships: http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/2ch...

<solstys: Why does White take the bishop with his rook on move 29>

Nothing was wrong with this move. Black is threatening Nxc3 so if you play 29.Rae1 [see diagram]

29...Nxc3 30.Qxb7 Nxa4+ and White "loses" the exchange also (and a pawn) while White may not have liked 29.Raa1 Rfd8. He still had a winning advantage.

<solstys: why does he move the king to b1 on move 32?>

White probably wanted to avoid something like 32...Rxc3+ e. g. to illustrate the threat after a useless move by White:

32.h3 Rxc3+ 33.bxc3?? Ra2+ [see diagram]

But I don't claim that 32.Kb1 was the best move for White. Another possibility to avoid Rxc3 was 32.c4 which might have been better.

Jan-21-16  Christoforus Polacco: Great respect for Mr Nenad Sulava !!! He lost Queen but not lost the game. Ksavery Tartakover was right - nobody saved the game by hanging the white flag :)

Plaskett: Around 1920 England played a Soccer match Vs Scotland. The score was 1-0 to England...but nobody scored.

Because the England goalscorer´s name was
John Nobody.
