NJ--no rating. Favorites, Morphy, Marshall, Anderssen. Played a lot as a teen, then let it go for 40 years. Trying to reconstitute myself as a chess player.

Meanwhile, let this forum serve as a refuge from wild-eyed loony leftism. Here there will be no admiration for Hugo Chavez, Castro, or any of the other tin-pot dictators admired by chess players from the safety of freedom-loving Western democracies. Here will be found a premise that most of the nations of the world today are governed by Godless fools. Ours, too, unfortunately.

I was also going to say some uncomplimentary things about Queen Pawn games, the Sicilian and the French Defenses, Semi-Slav games, and a few other chess matters. But as those are purely questions of personal taste, I have chosen to leave them alone.

Since setting up this forum, I have also had several novels published: "Bell Mountain," "The Cellar Beneath the Cellar," and "The Thunder King." For more information about them (and me), visit my website, http://leeduigon.com/

Update, much delayed: my fourth book, "The Last Banquet," came out last year, and my fifth, "The Fugitive Prince," I expect to be published sometime this Spring. For book covers and free sample chapters, visit my blog.

Update again: "The Fugitive Prince" is out now and the next project is "The Palace." Editing is well advanced, but we're still waiting for a cover.

Update: "The Palace" is in print now along with No. 7, "The Glass Bridge," with No. 8, "The Temple," waiting in the wings. The first seven are all available via amazon.com.

Update: No. 8, "The Temple," and No.9, "The Throne," are now in print, with No. 10, "The Silver Trumpet,"due for release any day now.

To this generation will be given only the sign of Jonas the Prophet.

Glory to Thee, Lord,
Honor, power and majesty!

Even now, says the LORD,
return to me with your whole heart
for I am gracious and merciful.

Glory to Thee, Lord,
Honor, power and majesty!

Question: If compulsory vegetarian Mondays are so good for children, and so necessary [trumpet fanfare] To Save The Planet, why not force all city employees to follow this custom, too--with the mayor himself setting an example?>

Liberalism is for everyone else.

The folks who lecture you on everything
from your wealth, to your carbon footprint, like their money, mansions, stretch limos, and Gulfstream jets.

playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> Why does "God Save the Queen" move me practically to tears?? I'm not English! I'm not even Canadian. Must be something to do with the Mother Country...

Let me return the favor with the lyrics to verse 4 of our American version of the song:

Our fathers' God, to thee,/Author of liberty,/To thee we sing!/Long may our land be bright/With freedom's holy light:/Protect us by thy might,/Great God our King!

And I'm getting all sappy again! But I can't help it. Better than getting all emotional about "The Handmaid's Tale."

playground player: <Esteemed Colleagues> Not all pawns are found on the chessboard.

Tomorrow is the Youth Climate Strike, in which a multitude of teenage pawns will "march"--that is, walk out of school--to demand "immediate climate justice," whatever that is.

As a reporter, I always hated it when adults put children in the front line to fight their political battles for them.

I hate it even more now.

You'd think liberal champions of education (it's about the children ) would schedule it on the week-end?

I guess to strengthen students resolve,
you have it happen during something they want to walk out of anyway!

  OhioChessFan: Q-Who said this?

<A society with legal access to abortion is a better society than a society without such access. It prevents illegal abortions and promotes women's health, safety and security. It is not least evident in a global perspective. Internationally, we see that churches are still contributing to the burden of many pregnant women in vulnerable positions.>

playground player: <OhioChessFan> Well, that's pretty sickening news: another "church" bites the dust.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the mass walkout that's supposed to be the Youth Climate Strike in America. Do we have another Far Left fizzle on our hands?

<Lee> Certainly it will fizzle. A few minutes after they "mass walk outside" they will run screaming into the nearest New Age Bookstore for a round of expensive menthol chai teas purchased with their parents' credit card, because THE SUN IS EXPLODING AHHHH.

The operative cognitive mechanism here was first identified by noted psychologist Shecky Green in the 1950s. He labeled it "Chicken Littleism."

playground player: <jessicafischerqueen> The thing that worries me most about this is that these children have no idea that our country's laws limit what the government can do. They seem to think it can do anything it wants, as long as it's To Save The Planet. They seem willing to accept a dictatorship. This is the result of an "education" that includes no instruction in history or civics.

And this is why that necrotic old spider Pelosi wants to lower the voting age to 16.

What a recipe.
Lower the age you can vote,
raise the age you can end life.
