MissScarlett: Yes, that initial version got mixed up with another game and then deleted (by Pope, I think). It should have been merged, of course.

MissScarlett: Today's <GOTD> title should be <In Praise Uff Folly (Bye Rasmus)> but it's been mangled by the software again, due to the brackets. There was the same issue recently with V Fedoseev vs A R Saleh Salem, 2024. <Steve>, fix this!

Does he actually work at all?

Some problems have been flagged up half a dozen of times and nothing has been done.

Take for example <last FIDE rating>. This should update automatically but it doesn't.

Khumoyun Begmuratov

<Last FIDE rating: 1971>

The guy actually has 2429, that's a huge difference.

The Script only updates the page, including FIDE Rating, if the "Number of games in database:"(on the top of the page) doesn't match the amount of games displayed in the table below. We can now use the "Update player page" button below to fix these manually. We'll eventually update the code to automatically handle these cases as well.

<Stonehenge: ... Some problems have been flagged up half a dozen of times and nothing has been done.>

Please let me know if the problems you are referring to aren't on the list located on my bio, User: stevemcd87 . I'll be sure to add them if not.

Re <Automate Daily Opening Explorer update>:
We are working on updating the pages, after indexing the games newly uploaded games, without overloading the server. Users should already notice daily Opening Explorer updates.

I plan to invert the board for 'Black to play' puzzles, diagrams and the Olga board, next. After that, I will move on to upgrading Stockfish.

Feel free to express what tasks you think should get prioritized.

  Stonehenge: From a correction slip:

<In the guidelines section of the Kibitz entry form, there is a spelling error in rule 8. "Do not degrade Chessgames or any of it's staff/volunteers." In this situation, it's should be spelled its. It's is a contraction and should be used where a sentence would normally read "it is" or "it has." Its with no apostrophe, on the other hand, is the possessive word.>

MissScarlett: The celebration of the 150th passing of Howard Staunton should amount to only one thing. Making him <Player of the Day> for tomorrow, June 22. This honour has always been neglected due to his birth date being unknown. I trust <steve> will do the necessary.

Let's get it on the front page.

MissScarlett: On the front page, the graphics for the Bonus Puzzle are different from the Puzzle of the Day. How long has this been so? It must explain why I've been recently checking to see if my glasses are smudged.

Maybe creating a separate TID is the way to go, after all.

  kingscrusher: Hi Cg

Consideration for future improvement: I think an interesting experimental improvement to the site would be to allow a "reaction" vote up or down on a comment (like what Reddit has but some forums are now also embracing).

Lichess goes further by allowing some reaction Emojis but maybe that is taking the reaction concept too far for this site.

It seems a shame that sometimes there are really great posts e.g. this one about Gedult by <Gejewe> who really gives some interesting context about Gedult.

David Gedult

And it seems a shame it can't be voted up. I guess it might be prone to abuse or something. But maybe if a post is going to a big negative number, it can be limited to -10 or something.

If implemented well, I think this might have the effect of encouraging more interesting writers to the site.

jnpope: I submitted four games, saw them in the queue, processed them, but nothing appears to have happened other than those games disappearing from the queue.

I even went back and tried the games individually and the same issue... submitted, they go into the queue, I click on process, they vanish without anything actually occurring.

Code rollback requested. And may I suggest you hire a regression tester.
