rinus: Hi all, This is not Rinus. I am his son and I have very sad news. On August 17 he died suddenly and completely unexpected. We (my brother, sister and I) have heard many stories about this chess-forum and he enjoyed playing the game and the forum. Regards, Ate

Oct-27-08  f54280: I just discovered today why rinus wasn't posting anymore in the main page.

My deepest, sincere condolences.

Oct-30-08  edda zeitz: <ate>
I just read three days ago that your father passed away - suddenly and completely unexpected. I am very sorry to hear this shocking news und would like to express my deepest and sincere condolences.

During the last year I exchanged a lot of messages with your father most of which were not related to the chessgame under way, but were kind of off-topic. If you look at the comments in the forum you can see that we don’t use our real names and normally don’t talk about age, profession, home country and place of living. I tried to find out why your father had chosen a mattenklopper as avatar and he tried to find out where I was from – and we played a funny hide and seek. Once I teased him and wrote (if I remember correctly) that we could meet in a restaurant called Le Vieux Jean, Heilige Geestkerkhof, or Van der Dussen, Bagjnhof – without mentioning the town’s name. But to my big surprise he answered that the city was Delft. So I assume that he lived in this region or was well acquainted with it. (I really made a trip through the Netherlands some years ago and visited Delft to see the spot from which Jan Vermeer painted his view of the city which is on exhibition in Den Haag’s Mauritshuis. I stayed over night in Delft and remember it as a nice and charming town.)

I will always remember your father as a witty writer and pleasant man with nice manners.

Dec-27-08  MarkThornton: <Ate> I have been away from the forum for a long time and have just read of your father's passing. He was a much respected member of this on-line community. I am very sorry to hear that he is no longer with us.

Jan-02-09  WhiteRook48: Rest in peace

<rinus: Although:

I woulda run away, but I was on my own.
She told me, later, she was a machine-operator.
She said I like the way I held the microphone.

Does anyone else see poetic value in letting the curtains go down in such a cheerful and playful manner?

Jul-06-10  zanshin: <ounos: Does anyone else see poetic value in letting the curtains go down in such a cheerful and playful manner?>

I have long noticed the poetic value of his final words. I never read a post from him that was angry or upsetting .. he was always helpful or joking.
