Honza Cervenka: GM Georgi Tringov was born in Plovdiv on March 7, 1937. He became quite known after 1956 Chess Olympiad in Moscow where he played on the 4th board of Bulgarian team scoring 9 points from 12 games (75 %), which was the 3rd best individual performance on the 4th board. Twelve years later in Lugano he was the best player on the 2nd board scoring 11 points from 14 games (78,6 %), ahead of Lothar Schmid (9/12 or 75 %) and Boris Spassky (10/14 or 71,4 %).

In 1962 Tringov became an International Master and in 1963 a Grandmaster. He also won Bulgarian championship in 1963, 1981 and 1985.

Mar-07-09  WhiteRook48: maybe he decided he was tired of chess
Mar-07-12  Nosnibor: Tringov did play in 1961! In the Bulgarian Championship held in Sofia from February 5th to March 6th 1961 he played three games before retiring from the tournament through illness.

Oct-20-15  zydeco: Korchnoi comments, in Chess Is My Life, that Tringov was the unluckiest player he knew. Korchnoi's comment is a propos of a story that Tringov forfeited a game in an important team event because he somehow forgot to put the paper with the sealed move in the adjournment envelope. There must be other stories of Tringov's unluckiness?
Mar-07-18  cunctatorg: He was a serious, very responsible, "old school" person and he had more than something common with Victor Korchnoi; his honesty, his seriousness and even his severe criticism.

By the way my unique game in this chess site is a miniature, an Alekhine defense where the late Grand Master defeated me in just 20 moves. I remember he was very critical of my move ... P-KR3? ... though the refutation of this move wasn't so obvious as it was devastating!!
