Feb-05-11  KingG: Does anyone know how many languages this guy speaks? I've seen him present a chessbase video in German, and his French accent seems pretty good when he reads out French names and places, so it's very possible he speaks that as well.
Mar-10-11  wordfunph: GM Daniel King co-authored "Kasparov Against the World" with Kasparov..

Richard Taylor: All the best Daniel!

<wordfunph -

He knows 1 million languages.>

Aug-29-12  jahhaj: Can't believe there's no photo of Danny. Longtime Guardian TV critic Nancy Banks Smith once described him as 'the kind of man for whom the adjective Byronic was invented'.

HeMateMe: I noticed a recent story on chessbase saying that Daniel King sings and plays guitar, as well as all of his chess activities. I searched utube for a jam session, but only found chess videos. More's the pity.

Oct-03-13  jancotianno: One of the best chess analysers. His youtube channel is fantastic.

HeMateMe: You suppose he gets laid much? He looks very confident, and seems to have a lot of Interests outside of chess. Girls like that. You don't have to be a GM to be a babe magnet, do you?
Oct-12-14  crazyim5: One of the greatest Chess commentators of all time and his profile gets no photo?!
Nov-26-14  SimonWebbsTiger: Danny and Simon Williams will be commentationg on the Qatar Open 2014, which features Kramnik(!!) amongst others. http://www.qatarmastersopen.com/vid...
May-11-15  TheFocus: <Having spent alarmingly large chunks of my life studying the white side of the Open Sicilian, I find myself asking, why did I bother?> - Daniel King.
Jun-12-15  waustad: This year he'll be doing summaries of the day's events at the Mitropa Cup. I'd seen that it is being broadcast via chess-results, but chessbase will be doing commentary too.
Apr-03-16  Octavia: <Can't believe there's no photo of Danny.> I agree
Apr-03-16  mckmac: <Octavia> <Can't believe there is no photo of Danny> I agree too. Surely GM King deserves his high profile on the media side of contemporary chess.
Aug-18-16  mckmac: <jahhaj> Crikey, Your call for a photo for Daniel King was four years ago...I think we need to get up a petition. I know there are hardworking volunteers who look after this sort of thing, but one hesitates before imposing.

<...for whom the adjective Byronic was invented.> Of course blokes can't get away with this kind of journalistic malarkey these days:) Probably a good thing too.

But Byron did say "In play there are two pleasures for your choosing; The one is in the winning and the other the losing", which is quoted in a book by IM Angus Dunnington.

Aug-28-16  diagonal: Happy birthday Dan, best wishes from Switzerland!

HeMateMe: Didn't King represent England in one or two Olympiads? I think I saw that in Walter Browne's book.
Aug-29-16  diagonal: European Team Championship yes, in Haifa (1989) on board four - but apparently not at Chess Olympiads: http://www.olimpbase.org/1989e/1989... (ETCC), http://www.olimpbase.org/playerse/d...
Aug-30-16  JimNorCal: re: getting a photo posted. Access any search engine, such as bing.com, enter a search string like "gm daniel king photo" and a nice set of images will display. However, most/all will be annotated "may be subject to copyright". I wonder if that could be an issue.
Aug-26-18  Returning Native: There's a good picture in the book 'Sveshnikov vs the anti Sicilians' plus many other more or less hilarious pictures of past and present chess greats.
