Hi and welcome at my profile!
I'm Nikolaas; a completely uninteresting and colourless person. There's one thing I contributed to this site (I saw it on another site); the Caissar prizes, only for honour of course. The first ever Caissar (as they're called) were held in 2004 and the winners were;

I'm currently studying math in Antwerp, music in Berchem and chess all around Flanders. Beside that, I'm working on a project which should include all tournaments by Belgians or in Belgium. All info on this subject is welcome at reservenik@yahoo.com. Because of all this things I haven't much time for chessgames.com. I'm sorry.

Now, I can perhaps tell something about myself (you can still flee); I Dislike:
- Kramnik
- Bad jokes (I've produced enough myself)
- Basketball (Man they're pathetic; fighting to get the ball and if they have it, they just throw it away) - Brussels and other sprouts

I Hate
- Most politicians (that is, all but me)
- Political corectness
- Hugo Claus (Yuck!)
- People who accept the human spirit as being contradictive - French

I Like
- see previous + fries
- George Orwell and Aldous Huxley
- Antwerp and by extention Flanders
- The weather (doesn't matter what it is)
- Living (whatever the reason might be...)

I Love
- De Vlaemsche taal
- Guido Gezelle
- People with brains (Goethe, Bomans...)
- Doing nothing
and...

Apr-18-09 Chigorin vs Alapin, 1885 (replies)

nikolaas: I think something like 13.Be7 Net 14.Nd4 0-0-0 15.Qe1 followed by Ne6 would give excellent winning chances, indeed.

   Jan-04-08 Arthur Dunkelblum (replies)

nikolaas: <Whiteshark> You think two champioenship are confusing? Belgian had 5 once. In 1936 the normal Belgian championship was held. The title of international champion of Belgium and that of national champion of Belgium luckily went to the same person (Koltanowski). There was also ...

   Nov-25-07 Georges Koltanowski (replies)

nikolaas: A short profile (in dutch) and a database containing 460 games are now available on my site. Go to http://www.freewebs.com/schaakhisto... follow "schaken" scroll until you see a list. On that list is Koltanowski's name. Click on it en follow "de database". With "online naspelen"

nikolaas: Hello all, could anyone help with the following questions: what are the requirements for a tournament to be of a certain category and what percentage should one get to make a FM/WM/IM/GM norm? Should one's prestation be rounded up or down? Thank in advance for your kind help, ...

Aug-05-07 The World vs G Timmerman, 2007 (replies)

nikolaas: <luckyicekiller> 1. Black does (almost) never castle queenside. The reason for this is probably that it requires much preparation and that, after a white kingside castling, white can start a heavy attack on the queenside. The c pawn is almost always on c4 by then, the d ...

   Jul-23-07 Paul Devos (replies)

nikolaas: The excellent "dictionnaire des échecs" by Le Lionnais (which I obtained for €1 - second hand books are great), says only "champion de Belgique 1945 et 1948", but this does no justice to Devos, who was for two decades or so one of Belgium's leading players (for what that's ...

   Jul-18-07 O'Kelly vs P Devos, 1937 (replies)

nikolaas: Since Devos and O'Kelly finished aqual in the Belgian championship of 1937 (with 7½/9, 1 point ahead of Dunkelblum), a play-off was needed. This game is the first of the play-off match and the only one that gained some fame. Although it wouldn't score high as a chess problem ...

nikolaas: There was one more move: 48: Kd4

Dec-21-06 Team White vs Team Black, 2006 (replies)

nikolaas: team black <whatthefat> I wouldn't be so sure about it. Honestly I think Bg3 is a good move, since it defends f2 and, more important, defends the bishop. In the current position there are a few lines in which f5 ...
