   Jun-18-09 M Damjanovic vs Fischer, 1970 (replies)

marknierras: move 43... Nd6 locks white king in place- cannot move to create counterplay; moves 50 to 55 forces white to position pawns to white squares. (This closes down its own bishop; Notice also that all of blacks pawns are on the opposite color; white's bishop is useless

Jun-13-09 Spassky vs Karpov, 1979 (replies)

marknierras: Zugzwang for white on move 35... There are no moves that has a neutral result; great lesson in constricting opponenet!

Jun-13-09 Spassky vs Fischer, 1972 (replies)

marknierras: continues: 28) Q x a4 Q x e4 white cannot properly defend g2 or e1

   Jun-02-09 V Lyublinsky vs Botvinnik, 1943 (replies)

marknierras: Nice instructional ending as well! You can see that the rook limits the movement of the king to the 2nd rank and the bishop is in the same color diagonal as the queening square!

Jun-02-09 Taimanov vs Karpov, 1973 (replies)

marknierras: Move 17 sacrifices pawn to create a strong position. Suggested ending by Silman is as follows (nice Queen and Knight mating attack): 40 Rb3 Qg5 41 Qf1 Qf4 42 kh1 nxf3 43 Qg2 Qc1+ 44 Qg1 Qxg1 mate

Jun-02-09 Reshevsky vs Petrosian, 1953 (replies)

marknierras: The 25... re6 sacrifice shows that sometimes a material loss can create a superior position... in this case 29...bd3; it looks like the sacrifice worked and white eventually realized that he had to give back the rook that he won on move 30 because of the strong black attack!

May-27-09 Unzicker vs Taimanov, 1952 (replies)

marknierras: A nice example of mounting an attack and focusing on one weakness. You can see how black zeroed in on c1... great game!

   May-13-09 A Nimzowitsch vs G Fluss, 1907 (replies)

marknierras: Amazing move 15...dxc6; advance calculation on the checkmate; brilliant; lesson: cage the king with 2 rooks...

   May-13-09 L Ogaard vs J Flesch, 1974 (replies)

marknierras: Nice combination in getting the checkmate...Shows power of the knight...

   Apr-28-09 C Guimard vs Euwe, 1946 (replies)

marknierras: Amazing 34...N-d2; It looked like white was expecting 34...n-d4; but black had grander plans!!!
