Dec-15-23 Karpov vs Gligoric, 1972 (replies)

ytroitsky: I deeply analyzed this game, and found that 18...Nc4 equalized. I went further into this variation and didn't find an edge for White. However, I have to admit that this game was a masterful and well-played example of clear-cut strategy from Karpov's part.

Aug-27-22 Tal vs Botvinnik, 1960 (replies)

ytroitsky: T his game shows something. Even when ahead in the match, Tal went for the win. As he said himself in his book, <'12.Qd2 would've 'steered into the drawing haven'> and he didn't want that. So he played the <'horrible', 'anti-positional', 'weakening' f4>. It's true this

Aug-26-22 Botvinnik - Tal World Championship Match (1960) (replies)

ytroitsky: Tal disregarded positional principles in the return match, but in this match he was a bulldozer who colourfully blasted every opponent in his way. I especially love Tal's famous ...Nf4!! in the sixth game, and the anti-positional f4?! which won the game.

   Aug-23-22 Fischer vs P Trifunovic, 1961 (replies)

ytroitsky: This was a very good and technical win by Fischer. 17.Bg5 Rg6! is favourable for Black, I would presume.

   Aug-22-22 Capablanca vs K Treybal, 1929 (replies)

ytroitsky: Black's opening choice was a bit strange, giving up the <dark-squared bishop which is key in the stonewall positions> as Black, then Capablanca proceeded to block the centre and slowly squeeze the life out of Black. In the end he exploited the a-file and prepared the normal ...

Aug-22-22 Carlsen vs Dominguez Perez, 2008

ytroitsky: This game somehow reminds me of <Tal-Mukhin>. The incredible <Nd5!! sac is now probably a tried-and-true method of breaking down resistance>. However, here Lenier Dominguez Perez did <not accept the sac right away> and managed to draw against Carlsen. If he had ...

   Aug-10-22 Tal vs Bronstein, 1982

ytroitsky: Tal got onto the attack and never got off. One has the impulse to say 'typical Tal'. Bronstein saw that 20.Rxb4 would be completely crushing because of the overpowered g2-bishop. I have to take my hat off to Tal for the brilliant game.

   Aug-10-22 W Pasko vs P W H Smith, 1997

ytroitsky: Peter W H Smith played for the draw, but Wieslaw Pasko created an attack by sacrificing White's queenside. I have to say that the final sequence was so pretty that Anderssen would've been proud of it. Bravo Pasko!

   Jul-27-22 I Aramanovich vs Flohr, 1945

ytroitsky: White went wrong on the 14th move. Instead of attacking, (which happened in the game) he could have simply played 14.Nd2, he would have a big edge (+1.18) and would have good winning chances. Flohr got a good attack for the pawn deficit and managed to convert it to a victory.

   Jul-27-22 Morphy vs Maurian, 1866

ytroitsky: Poor Marian! After 33.Qxd6, the evaluation was more than -8!
