   Dec-27-09 P Span vs F Wuts, 2001

wweiss: 26. Nb5! is a great move as it draws the c pawn to the b file where it is weaker and after the series of trades that follows gives white the bishop pair. Throughout the whole game, black struggles just to supplant white's powerful bishop from c7 and has to place his knight on the ...

   Dec-21-09 J Schwarzat vs Samuel Oltzen, 2004

wweiss: Why not 5. Qd2 Qxb2 6. Rb1 instead of losing the bishop immediately?

Dec-21-09 Shulman vs A Bernardino Jr, 1999 (replies)

wweiss: 5...Ng4 is much better as the pawn on e3 falls or black forks on f2.

   Feb-27-09 D Bojkov vs Z Izoria, 2005 (replies)

wweiss: 31. Rxg4! is a great move. Should black recapture with 31...Rxg4 then 32. Ne3 forks the bishop and rook. If 32...Rd4 to defend the bishop then 33. Nf5+ forks the king and rook! As Bojkov had to see two forks in a row this could be a tuesday puzzle.

   Feb-09-09 R Har-Zvi vs Korchnoi, 1993

wweiss: 16...Qd7 was a nice trap by Korchnoi. If 17. Qxg7 then 17...Rg8 18. Qxh7 Rxg2+! . So well spotted by Har-Zvi to simply capture with 17. Qxd7

   Jan-02-09 A Obada vs H Ni, 2007

wweiss: 28...a3! is a fantastic move as the pawn on d3 is now poisoned. 29. Rxd3 a2! 30. Rd1 (30. c4 Rxd4! ) Nxc3 and the rook on d1 must move and cannot defend both the queening square on a1 and the bishop on d4.

Dec-20-08 Seirawan vs Kasparov, 1986 (replies)

wweiss: Phenomenal endgame play by Seirawan! Kasparov can play a sequence that leads to him being a rook up w/ 62...d2, but he gets mated. 62...d2 63.g7 c2 64. g8Q! cxd1Q 65. Qc8+ Kd5 66. Qd7+ Ke5 67. Qd6#

   Dec-13-08 E Diemer vs T Heiling, 1984 (replies)

wweiss: Playing like this is frequently a good strategy against computers who are largely ignorant of king safety. I cannot tell you how often I've played against MacChess and won not out of tactical prowess, but simply because I push kingside pawns in the opening and the program castles ...

   Nov-27-08 D van Dooren vs E Baekelant, 2007

wweiss: 21. Nd6 is definitely worthy of a Monday or Tuesday puzzle.

   Nov-25-08 I Rabinovich vs A Ilyin-Zhenevsky, 1932 (replies)

wweiss: 10... Qxg7 recovers at least one pawn after 11. Bxg7 Bxe5. However, after trading bishops 12... Qxg7 fails to 13. Qxf4! Qxh8 14. Bd6!
